O.K. I bypassed the Deans type connector and all works.
Still need to setup leveler and for that I am going to create a holder for that.
I need to finish this Sub-Driver so I can finish the model.
Moving along that line, I moved the float valve forward and had the original hole covered with electricians tape. That is what David Merriman uses on any openings in the ballast area, if it becomes an issue, I can fill it.

I did redo the tape and put on a larger piece.

Battery compartment has several holes that can be used for pushrods seals or the archaic manual switch (yeah I am loving the magnetic switch that Kevin McLeod makes).
    So I taped one end.

Once dried I put some CA on the back side to seal it. The front will get a light sanding make it nice and flush.

For the Magnetic Switch, I made the holder. I am still debating whether to use it or not.

If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

There just does not seem to be enough "just right" spots for the equipment we pack into these little tubes. I thought I would try adding a tray.

Neat idea, and the part you made looks very crisp and functional. Nice workaround.

Thank you. I might make this with even a larger tray. It is one area of our hobby I really like. Coming up with ideas, solutions, and meeting challenges. Even if it is small steps like I have bending on this sub.

Worked a little more on the bow planes.
he initial install is really straight forward.

The trickier part is once the torpedo tubes are installed.

Since I am only putting two tubes in (and they are not being made anymore) I cut the top portion of the alignment piece.

Doing that gave me more options of how I am going to run the pushrod.

David's kit includes tiny brass rods to go through the plane guard and into the plane itself. Drilled out a hole in the guard and expanded the already provided hole in the plane. If I CA these little rods in, any damage or chance of disassembly is reduced to zero. I can use an RTV rubber, but pulling it out will be problematic.

It is possible the guard can flex enough to allow the removal of the plane. I won't play with that until I need to (hopefully that will be never!)

Sorry about the delay in building this. I have two subs I am working on as well, the Walrus build and Akula refit going on. There is another the Israeli Dolphin, but I will get back to that after finishing two of the three I am working on.

Tom, are you going to bring this boat to the San Francisco Regatta, It would be a great place to trim it out, (The fly casting pond that we use has steps going into the water. Easy on the back bending over, while taking the boat in & out of the water). Enjoyed your build. Best Wishes Mike

                  Mike,
                  Thank you Mike!
I will not be able to make it to the S.F. regatta.
A little more work on Walrus (I cut the bow to slide on instead of the Z cut) and I will get back to the Type IX.
                  Peace,
                  Tom

Thanks for the great build log.
I am going to build a 1/48 scale of the U-505, hope to make it a scale rc model. Alex is making me frames now. Will be a couple of months before I get them.
I was thinking of building the 1/72 while I am waiting
May I give you a call or email you with a few questions?
                      Thanks again for the build.

I originally was going to make a shelf to mount the magnetic switch, but it was suggested to silicone the switch to the tube. I did that, but the aquarium silicon did not hold for me. So, I used my blue RTV gasket stuff, not pretty...it holds!

Servo horns are attached and positioned correctly, the other devices are all installed. The wires will be shortened or bundled later.
                            Everything is stuffed in place.

Before testing in water, I noticed the o-ring was very cracked - needed replacing. I had replacements so not a big deal.

I use Goop to glue the mission switches in. Also great for the lead weights. Similar to rubber cement but stronger and water proof of course.

                                Bob,
If the RTV silicone does not hold, I will consider Goop. (although blue RTV has not failed me yet)
