Oops, forgot: Eventually I'll be checking to see if one or more of the Evergreen corrugated styrene sheets (like I used for Seaview's non-skid/safety track) might be employable as 1/72 wood decking to replace the areas Paul brought up as being too much metal for particular boats.

That guy has a super looking project going, Scott!

Status Report: Been up to my elbows in SCR work and new school year. However, I did steal a few moments here and there to scribe Flasher's MBT openings (don't tell LaRue). Pics to follow when I get a chance. Harder (Porteous) is busy accumulating aftermarket parts for his build and doing research. And doing work on his fleet as is Trigger (Kisler) to prepare for Sun N Fun 2012.
        Warm regards,

hmmm.....there are probably enough folks in this SC wolf pack build to justify developing a PE set of items for this kit. (different than the Eduard PE kits)

          Any interest?

I think a portsmouth/Mare Island limber hole set with rivet detail, ala the Eduard fuselage panels, would be gold. An early war metal upper deck wouldn't be bad either.

              Simple answer, Yes!
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

AMP was developing a Portsmouth limber hole PE set several years ago but dropped it. Maybe they would be willing to share what they worked up?

Absolutely. Great stuff. Tom already has their Silversides set which he's modding to represent Trigger.

Working on some torpedo door activation. Started with some paper and now cutting up a
milk jug to make the arms.

Pull the arms to the rear to rotate the doors.

Way to go Scott! I love it! What are your thoughts on how you are going to make them work?

I haven't invented that part yet. Was thinking of glueing magents in to the end of the arms
that is pulled by a servo rod. The magnets should give it a littlt play I hope.

Someday, USS Hake, SS-256 will be added to the fleet. She finished the war as a Barge Buster, 2 5"25s, twin 20mm fwd, 40mm aft. Loaded for bear!! Minimal mods required, as she was an EB boat. Pride in the company, as it were!

Cool, Bill. that should be a very unique look. I got the first complete pass on scribing the MBT floods done and am opening up the proper ones that didn't have the door. Will try to post a pic. She looks much better with all the business on her bottom.
                              Warm regards,

Here's a shot of the scribing and drilling of the MBT floods, etc. I used the Nautilus "Pre-War/Early Gato" template to mark the holes then used the plastic stencil as a guide.
