I am amazed to learn that at some boats
the forward part of the railings (near the 8.8 gun)
had a man-sized bent in it, curving outward.
anybody know the reason/function
for that feature ? (see "type VII u boats" by Robert Stern,
page 52 left and p 98 lower)
for a diorama, check out this link ]www.artitec.nl.
for instance this steel quayside.
(they also have a nice Seehund,
also available in waterline. note scale is 1/87, not 1/72)
There might be other sources of quays and harbours
hidden among HO train scenery in your local shop.
For the quay parts the scale difference can be
ignored, since there are no "human related" artifacts
present (like doors etc.).
The quays are reasonably priced at about 15 euros.
they are sold on the web by www.hobbyworld.nl.
just to show I make marginal progress now ]have a look
these patterns seem to vary, particularly in how far the
circles are removed from the center, and how the
pattern looked in front of the gun.
I even read that later in the war only the aft half of
this pattern was laid out.
It's quite fun to check your books and photo's for
evidence of "how it looked"
I'd really like to put mine in a diorama of that type but not at that price. I'm still looking for drawings of a u-boat pen so that I can make a section of a pen with the model in it.
I continue to have the distinct feeling that Revell has hit a grand slam with this model, and they haven't even realized it yet.
I'm thinking of an at sea diorama with their 1/72 scale S boat...
or an at sea diorama of the Type VII and the Matchbox(Revell) Flower Class Corvette...
I really think this model has opened up some distinct possibilites
Now, someone get on their case and do a larger scale Fleet Boat...I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
I just bought Tamiya Modellers Magazine International
(TMMI) nr 104, and it does not contain the promised
review on the Revell kit.
Promiss now is that issue 105 will cover it.
this goes to print at 20th of May.
Hi Ronald,
Actually the magazine says that it have a review on next issue and im not sure if they are gonna have a construction article.Oneway or another my model is going to finish in early may due to ipms Greece show. What about you?have you made any progress?I receive last week the metal periscopes and gun barrels from Japan and they look great,i suggest to all of you to order them.
I have news for my fellow Canadians. I just picked up an Revell type VIIC from Udisco here in Montreal for $54.00 CDN plus taxes. Udisco received six kits on thursday. I think he has only two left. So, if you what one, better head on down now.
