A bit about the wintergarten.


A bit about the wintergarten.
in the (fuzzy) foreground you see two added brass railings.
The sockets in which the vertical rails are glued have
been sanded off (before those rails were glued in, to avoid
breaking the railing itself).
I removed the flagpole vertical rail. It was strangely
shaped, and the photo's I checked just show a normal
rail with a tube attached (to put the flagpole in).

I made them with soldering lead, two small brass
tubes and a few bits of scrap plastic.

I am very pleased with this topic and I am a great admirer of the Ronald van Aalst remakes his Revell 1/72 U-Boot into a much better one... It's really becoming a beauty! I take my hat off for his building skills.
I just made a small and basic website with some pictures of my rebuilding progress on the Revell kit. My photographic talents are very poor so excuse me for the often blurry pictures.

the sander that you used did a nice job of opening the flood vents...can I assume it is some sort of reciprocating or circular sander?

Also, I noticed that you have built up styrene (plasticard) ribs along the inside of the hull...is this for additional strength because of the sanding? I saw the same under one of your deck shots too.

Overall, your model is shaping up very nicely.

Hi Sam,
The sanding machine is one I bought from Proxxon and is not a circular one but a reciprocating one. It's like a pen and only works on 12volts. I can with an extra adapter adjust the speed.
The Evergreen plastic I used was for additional strength. The sanding makes a great job, because the floodholes become natural thing. The disadvantage is that the whole part is becoming weak and hence my Everygreen solution.
The Evergreen inside of the hull is for making a cigar tube... but this is an experiment.

Well, your pictures of the railings finally did it.
I will replace mine. you are right, it looks far better,

photo below shows the upper windabweiser in place,
some puttying between the windabweiser and the
aerial housing, and a new fitting on the top of the
aerial housing. the top of the aerial housing varied
a bit. Anybody who has a clear photo of the top of the
aerial housing ?

On the other side of the tower, the windabweiser does not have the correct form for U-203. It should continue all the way along the tower, but the kit's version does not.

Tell me somethink please about the brass propelles.
Are they made from raboesh? And how many mm are in diameter.I have order mine from my local hobby store 20mm and im waiting for them.And here is a tip.Because they look very shine and if you want to make them look used you can put them for a few minutes in acid to became like old.I have done that on my flower class corvette brass prop and the result was good.I use a special acid that is used to make electronic printed circuits,It removes the cooper from them.It is cheap and if you ask on an electronic shop they will help you.If you dont like the result you can shine them back with brass polish liquid.I first test it on an old shell i had from the army and then try it on the prop.

Again thanks for the nice words regarding the sanding job.
To be honest I don't really know which manufacture made them, but I know it is a Dutch company. I took a Revell propeller with me to my local hobby shop and the one I picked came very close to the Revell's.
Thanks for the acid tip.... That one I did not know. I always used to give them a fire treatment... with a special lighter from Proxxon, but I will give your tip a go.
