have a look at the changes. this was a very delicate job.
I hope it will stand painting without anything breaking off.
The metal was soft-soldered. I used the legs of an old
resistor, to be sure soldering would work.
I clamped the two pieces with a block of brass, then
soldered the joint.
I drilled a hole in the plastic to fix the wire in.
I also drilled a dimple in the U-shaped harnesses to
be able to put them on top of the wire (using CA). have a look.
Does anybody have clear pictures of the right side of the
deck gun ?
I finished painting the conning tower in it's intended
color. It did not come out as well as I had hoped, but
it is reasonable. I'll go for extreme wear & tear.
below is "versuchsboot nr. eins" with some rust experiments
first, I thickened the wires I added with white glue.
(nice stuff, white glue..)
I added an elevation cam between the recoil thingies
under the barrel.
Above the breach block there was some cover shield
which I modelled from a lead foil (recycled wine bottle
cork wrapper)
on the side the breach locking handle was modelled from a
bit of scrap plastic railing (seen in black on the photo).
the major improvement was a large cam on the side of the
gun. This cam ran through some mechanism.
I cut a circle from the lead foil and stuck it on the cam.
The space behind the lead circle was filled with white glue.
so that the cam became encased.
on the front of the mount I added two bits of wiring
(one of the strands from a bit of electrical wire) to
represent two hooks. I drilled a hole for the gun barrel
tompion.
From the same wire I made the rope attached to the
tompion.
update ]www.clubhyper.com has some activity regarding the revell
kit. recently a review was published there.
also check the "ship chat" forum while you're there.
Hi Guys,
I just saw a post on hyperscale from "houshinya.com" that they produce turned periscopes for the revell kit.I think they are perfect and i have send e mail to the guys to arrange how i can buy them.Take a look on the link and you will see them.
As for my model its going well so far and i just receive the Raboesch bronze propellers that they are 2mm smaller in diameter but they look far better that the plastic props i will try to post a picture on hyperscale.com later and i inform you.
Beautiful work Thomas...The jumpers and insulators look great, and the paint job looks really well executed...nice subtle weathering, and nice detail on the 88... congratulations on a great looking model.
Well i have get a lot of help over the years from guys on the internet and im glad now that you like my model and inspire some of you.Only think i have to tell you is that im building ww2 aircrafts but im also a u boat freak and i enjoy one by one the parts i have construct on this model, sure is one of my best models and i love it.The problem is just i have no referense to see since this is the first u boat on the net but next taniya magazine will have a u boat so im waiting to take some ideas for the weathering.i will inform u all when i get it to my hands.
I am now improving the anti-skid around the gun.
The circle is too small in the kit. I samded the pattern
off the deck and am replacing it with small plastic strip.

Ronald-
this is one of those places where photoetch brass would be a great replacement...especially since you could get a texture on it like antiskid material. good luck with your efforts...your pioneering (and wolfpack's too!) are helping all of us.
I just order from those guys the alum periscopes. They had a problem about accepting money because it is their first attempt about selling thinks outside Japan ,so i gave him some instructions and ideas and now he accept paypal.
The periscopes cost 2500yen incl. airmail postage to Greece,so i quess this cost is the same for every europian country. If any of you is interesting you can contact with Mr Hirohisa Nagashima at phantom2@da2.so-net.ne.jp.He is a great guy and the good think about the set is that it also have the 88 and 20mm gun barrels.
I got the tamiya model magazine today (issue 103).
It states that the next issue will be published
18th of march.
Issue 104 will review the Revell VIIc.
anybody seen it yet ?
on another subject ]www.verlinden-productions.com)
made a resin kit of the hunley in 1/72 ? It measures a
whopping 54 millimeters (about 2 inch, I believe).
I had some indication the VIIc kit was becoming available
in the states/canada, since I read an entry somewhere
where the kit was already delivered to the customer.
anybody to confirm that good news ?
(otherwise, hang in there just a tiny bit longer..)
