So much easier to finish the hull smooth with primer and sanding.
    Then scribe the primer.
Epoxy and fiberglass is so hard to scribe.
And to make straight lines, even harder.

Primer allows you to fix mistakes quickly and easily.
I think scribing primer makes a finer line as well.
    That may just be me!

I have been known to scribe the finish paint coat before clear coating to add a couple of small items I forgot.

    Good job. I like it.

What exactly is it that is giving you problems?

        Seals, yokes, servos, tight spaces.

We're going over this issue on the LA Class thread.

I'm just about ready to give up on this project.

I suck at making linkages. I have had 5 failed attempts at making the rudder yoke. In the process the sonar pod broke off, the bottom rudder broke off, shit is breaking and falling apart everywhere.

I really wanted this to be a spectacular boat. It's a damn near failure.

Don't do the yokes.....do the individual servo rods for the dive planes. That'll give you some additional room for the rudders...or do the same with the rudders.

              Erich,

I'm with Jeff on this one! My Trepang has 4 separate pushrods going to 4 bellcranks, each attached to its own plane/rudder shaft. They are paired with their counterparts in the wider area that is accessable by removing the upper hull and looking straight down. They've never been a problem. She's 19 years old now. One of Matt's mid-90s kits. Beat to crap, but the pushrods still work!!!! Patience, my son. You'll get there and she will be a thing of beauty!!!!!

After a much needed break from work, I'm back on it again. I was a tad bit frustrated with the linkages, but taking Jeff's advice and doing each arm individually seems to have done the trick.

I am having trouble coming up with a method to couple the 1/16" linkage rods to the 2mm servo arm shafts that extended thru the end of the OTW cylinder. I am trying to design and print a custom coupler. We shall see....

Here's what I came up with: a double-ended coupler. One end is 2mm to accept the shaft from the cylinder. The other end is 1/16" to accept the rod attached to the linkages. The holes along the side are for 4 2mm set screws.

                              Erich,

For those kinds of connections, I just use a Dubro wheel collar that has a large enough I.D. that allows both rods to slide in....then simply tighten the set screw. This also essentially makes it a snap to adjust.

                                Jeff,

I thought of the same thing. The 2mm shaft fits nicely into a 3/32" collar, and of course a 1/16" collar for the other end. I've tried to solder 4 collars, two of each, all together into a larger coupler without much success (i don't have any 3/32" aluminum rod and therefore have to use brass, which always ends up taking on some of the solder and sticking everything to the rod).

If this doesn't work I may re-examine the wheel collar option.

                                e.
