    Steve-

Beautiful job! You have motivated me to go back and add some weld lines to my Gato. As if I needed something else to work on !

    Nice job anyway.

          Fantastic Steve.

          Myles.
me too. started having the shakes from withdrawal...

Steve- looks great! varying the weld lines in depth and visibilty sure makes a difference,

Question for you: Have you thought about how you're going to split the hull for access to your internals??? Are you going to be able to follow some weld/seam line? Are you going to create a center "hatch" area instead?
          cheers,
          Sam

            Steve,
I just finished the scratchbuilt WTC and everything seems to be working just perfectly. However I still need to figure out some way of attaching the 1/16" SS cables from the stern control surfaces to the 1/8" servo pushrods. Obviously I need something involving a set screw but I'm not quite sure what yet.

I have some "plans" for my video WTC that I am going to post on here as soon as I finish them. I want to see if anyone else can see any reason for it not working; sometimes its easy to miss stupid things.

It also looks like I will "have to" upgrade from my Hitech Laser 4 to a Airtronics VG6000 computer radio to have enough channels for my rotating camera..... how sad I guess I can put the Laser in my 1/72 Corvette and add operating depth charges or something.

Anyway, I'll get some new pics of my boat on here soon. I did some slightly drastic weathering on it. I tell you, once you get started weathering it sure is hard to know when to stop!

            Thanks for asking,
            Jonathan

              Sam,

there will be a slight score line at the water line for the opening. It will leave just enough room to get the WTC in there.

              Johnathan,

thanks. That sure sounds good. How about a thread and some pictures? sure would like to see your work.

and yes it is hard to know when to stop indeed.

                Well much of what I've

Well much of what I've been doing was covered on the first side of the hull. Now I've got both sides detailed.

On side one I now have the limbers holes going on. These are location markers. I've used thick tape and made a brass punch to punch out the tape to the oval shape.

What will happen next is a few more layers of primer. Once dry I will remove the tape and there will be nice depressions showing you where to drill out the holes.

I should be able to glue the two halves of the hull together tomorrow. It gets a little easier from here. Doing the hull was a bear!

That's a neat trick for the drain slots Steve. Looks like it would save a bunch of time over scribing them in place. Probably a little tougher if you had all sorts of different sizes of drain holes- you would have to build a new punch for each size.

You say the hull wa a bear, but I have to comment that you've made it look very easy and do-able. I'm really liking the looks of this boat.

                        Update. Well if you can

Update. Well if you can call it that.

Yesterday my wife came in to my nice building-office at 72 degrees. 105 outside. She claimed there was an electrical problem and some things had gone out. I looked at the breaker box, touched it and got burned! #### it!

Then the main kicked off. Everything went out. Waited two hours for the #### thing to cool off. Turned it back on and 10 breakers burned out. Had some power but of course the office and garage were dark. And too #### hot to work!

So I called the landlord. She did nothing but blow smoke up my rear. See I had complained about the breaker box two months ago and told this thing was a hazard. They said I wasn't an electrician and I didn't know what I was talking about. Being a know it all I took offense to there pea brained comment and called one myself.

He came over and backed up everything I said. The landlord said she'd take care of it. Two months go by and nothing until yesterday. The very thing I tried to haed off at the pass.

They tell me there regular guy is at dinner and will get over here. 11 pm comes and now I'm so pissed the first person to argue with me would be a dead man.

Morning comes after no sleep in a 90 degree house. Still nothing. So I find out who the regular guy is and call him. His machine says his office is closed until Sept.2. One lie for the landlord.

So she sends three different guys over. All say the same thing. But they want too much money and she sends them home. Still sweating and pissed off it gets real ugly. Some of you know how I can be. Right!

Then she tells me that the guys that she uses that's out of town to the 2nd is scheduled to come over this coming Friday and replace the whole thing, Ah ha! That she didn't want to spend another 800 dollars so I could have AC, no office and no computers. Why can't you wait until then. What?!!!!

Well remember I work for a living with those horrid PC things doing CGI. Doing a job too. So you can imagine what I said to her and her limped appendage husband. Still nothing. I'd have more respect for them if they would fight back. Chickens!

With two sockets working in the house, off to builders I went and got two heavy gauge extension cables and the office is back online. Garage still in the dark until Friday!

Is it just me or is my landlord out of line? Me thinks so. She could have cost me my job and didn't care. Maybe she will when I deduct from her rent the days I lost at 250 a day. Oh and I'm not going to tell her I got the power back on in the office. HA!HA!

                        Nice update, huh?

                        Feeling mean and terrible,

                        Where's the beef!

Sorry to hear about your electricel problems. The secound is a long way off in this heat. Anyway. do you have a line drawing of THE 17A? ...seems to be a lot of diference between the A version and the B. If you have any line drawings of The A version please include it in your next update.

                          Thanks

                            Paul, the Von Original zum

Paul, the Von Original zum Modell book on the 17 is mostly the B model however there are a few line drawings of the A model.

I won't be able to scan them for a few days here but if you order the book from Amazon it might be a lot better than my small scans.

A little more progress. got both halves glued together with epoxy. Working late to avoid the heat. I have mostly finished the sail's details. Having trouble getting a good picture but these will give you the idea.

Tomorrow when I can see outside I will sand the deck flat and add the details to it next. Things are sketchy on what exactly goes there even with the plans but I'll do my best. Babel fish will help with the German inscriptions that point to each part.

Steve- sorry to hear about all the crap you are going through. I don't know if I could ever be a tenant because of these things. But, I also have an aunt that lives in CA and she does property management. I can't believe what housing prices are like in your area! I hope you get some satisfaction come "rent due" day...maybe she'll owe you money.

The model looks really good glued up. Once you get the primer over the drain slots, the deck details, etc. are you going to make a plaster mold? fiberglass? How many pulls do you expect to do?

On a side note- are you R/C jets ducted fan, or the new fangled turbines? Have you ever done an F-4 Phantom? Just curious...

                              stay cool!

                                Steve,

                                I'm on the opposite

                                Steve,

I'm on the opposite side of the coin on the landlord / tennant issue. I've got rental property with a full time tennant. I treat him like GOLD because he is always on time with the rent and keeps the place looking nice. I get a phone call about a problem, I tell him to do what it takes to fix it and I deduct off the rent. He'll even renovate the place if I pay for supplies, which to me, is like getting free labour and he's happy because he gets to make the place to his liking at my expense. He thinks I'm an awesome landlord, I think he's an awesome tennant. Win, win. ....but....there are tons of horror stories on both sides. I could never afford to live in California though.

...back to the boat....... looking sa-----weet.

                                Myles.
