    Steve,

    Steve,

    She's looking real good.

As for the WTC, I didn't really think it would be THAT hard to make. Plastic container with seals on it, and everything that protrudes from it.....or am I simplifying it wayyy too much ?

The cutting tool, I was referring to those rods that hold the piano wire.

I really should quit bothering you so much so that you can get to work on that XVII.

    Myles.

Using an enlargement of the templates of the sail, printed out and glued to the foam block I cut out the sail with a band saw.

Next I will sand it more to shape getting the curves. Glass it. Primer and putty just like the hull.

      Myles,

I haven't ever made a WTC that way before so I hope someone here who has can answer your question better.

Hey your not bugging me just trying to learn. That's fine by me.

        It wouldn't be right if I didn't make a comment......so...here it is.

Your glasses in the one photo are a nice touch in giving the photo a sense of the engineering that goes into a project like this. This stuff isn't for those unfortunate enough to have low IQ's....at least that what that photo brings to mind.

*Maybe I AM in over my head...... *

            Sam,

            thanks a bunch man!

This more evidence as to why these subs or any hand crafted model cost so much. So you can help for my doctor bills for one. My arm is about dead here!!

Sanding and filling and sanding and filling to get his turkey smooth. Now I admit the real things were lumpy and bumpy to a degree but I can't leave it alone. Every time I hold it up to the light at the extreme angle I find more.

After two days of it as you can see each pass the spot putty gets smaller and smaller. I think this is the last pass tonight and then I can start the detailing. Finally, the fun part!

I also got the sail glassed today so I can smooth it tomorrow and start detailing that too. Then there are the appendages, but I can't think about that right now.

            Getting there quickly.

            Steve

Harry somethimes they look a bit more on the real side that way. Maybe you won't have too. I left a few concaves and dents in this tool. The panel lines will help a lot to sell that look.

Last for tonight. It's ready to wet sand and then it's time to do weld lines and panels. Torpedo doors. Yada, yada.

                I'm tired. Goodnight.

                  [color=#000000]Steve,

You don't happen to do automotive body work do you ? I've got a rear trunk sill panel on a '69 Camaro that needs a little smoothing. (I was accelerating from a light and forgot I had a floor jack in the trunk. Funny how I remembered the instant I heard the "thunk". Too late, protruding dent. >]

                    Steve-
Some of the things I like about OTW's submarines are the dents and such on the hull. Bob uses lithoplate for his creation of panels and detail on his hulls- and when cast, they show real different depths and levels...really realistic looking. I think you're doing right by leaving some of that on this hull.

Hey Mylo- a '69 Camaro you say? Might that be a 69 RS/SS???

Z-28 ....bastardized. Not a #'s car. It's a toy I picked up years ago before I got married. My wife loves the car and uses it as a commuter to work...... hee hee.

Somewhere......there is a Chevy 302 small block that is REAL valuable to me. In the meantime....she's my "summer beater".

....Oh ya...this is a sub forum.

...uh....the sub(floor) on the car is real nice. There is no sub(woofer) for the stereo in it (orig. 8 track). Being that it's not a #'s car, it really is sub(par).

ahhh... If I could own any 69 Camaro, it would be a RS/SS Pace car first, then an RS Z/28. In fact, having matching numbers is a pain in the a$$, if you catch my drift.

Take a look at my member's page; something I used to have (and now wish I still did...)

Nope I don't do auto body work. Only visual effects CGI, and models for the screw ball movie biz. I hate Hollywood. That said lets move on. LOL!

Cars. We are talking about cars now? Well out of my three cars this one the wife a daughter don't ouch if they want to live.

1985 black Nissan Z with all the goodies. Digital gauges, electric everything. All the stereo controls on the steering wheel. A talking computer that tells you if doors are open, lights are on and a bunch of other stuff. Sitting in this car at night is like being in the cockpit of the 117A. Awesome. G meter/bank meter/ trip computer and you know what? It all works still.

I laugh at the new cars. I wouldn't touch one of them except the new Ferrari or 911. Junk is all they sell now. Ugly too.

Gee do you think I like my Z?

                                Steve,

You mean....a guy can make a living building models ?? I KNEW you were a pro....I just KNEW it. Are we going to see your XVII in the next Spielberg flick ? As for the Z, is that a 300Z ? I always liked those. Hard to find a nice one today that hasn't been wrecked, much like the old Camaros.

                                Sam,

Ah yes...the '69 RS/SS Pace rag top. Most definately a favorite. What are they fetching these days ?? $100,000 yet ? If not, won't be long. The #'s being a pain in the nads....I tend to agree, and not just simply because I have a car that isn't worth a whole lot because the original mill is in some scrap heap somewhere, but because my Z get's driven daily in the summer. Here, there, go get milk, go catch a flick, take it to work.... I dare say I wouldn't be pulling that off with a #s car. I just enjoy the car and enjoy driving it (orig M21 "Rock Crusher" trans..... ). Having said that, gas hit $1.06 a litre here today, (that's about $4.25 a U.S. gal.). Takes a bit of the fun out of cruising the car. .....that's why I'm getting into electric subs... (to get us back on track).

Too many hobbies (toys...whatever you want to call them), not enough time or money.

Back on a related topic. I played around a little with my 1:150 scale static model that I "modified" (drilled holes in the bottom to let water in )in order to conduct some bouyancy experiments. I found it quite amazing how such a little bit of temperature change in the water affects bouyancy. As well, how little change in ballast it took to make the sub float or sink. This obviously relates to larger models as well I would only assume. What's the math involved in calculating the size a balast tank needs to be ? Should there be one fore and one aft, or is one bigger one in the middle good...as long as the sub is trimmed properly ? The single tank seems less complicated but.....what do I know.

                                Myles.
