Well it's not over yet as this week I will start the molds. It's a bit too hot in my garage today and tomorrow to make them in any kind of comfort. So I should get going by the weekend as the temps will be in the 70's! Yippie.

If you live where I do you get to hate the summer.

I live up north here in Canada where we only get 3 months of summer.......and I hate summer. Too hot....too busy....too many people all over....too many kids hanging around doing too little and up too late playing "boom boom" music too loud......too much yard work......too Over rated.

Give me fall any day of the year. September is by far and away my favorite month The only problem I have with fall is our 6 month winter is right around the corner......but then again, that's when I do all my hobby stuff.

Things have been slow with

Things have been slow with work happening with the History channel but at night here I go.

Using paraffin based non-sulfur clay I've laid up the appendages. I will preen these up next. Then build a styrene wall around each one deep enough to except the RTV I will pour into them.

Once set up I will remove the clay and pour side two. The channels you see are for the pouring. In addition to this I will be cutting small vents into the molds at the critical bubble capture points.

Tim knows what I mean here. On Tim’s site you can see the process he used that was quite clever I though using Legos to make the box and then doing the lay up with a similar clay.

You don't want to use a plastilina as it as oils and sulfur. And RTV and this combination do not mix.

It will not allow the RTV silicon to cure completely Myles. It reacts and makes a nasty mess. Expensive too as RTV cost 100-135 per gallon. This project will take two gallons.

Nope they're are plenty of kids right here in the good old US of A. LOL!

there was a really good article in one of the last Fine Scale Modeler magazines that illustrated the Legos box wall for RTV molding quite clearly...so you great minds must think alike

I hear you on the "kid" thing. My brain failed to "mature". Toys and hobbies have been my thing since I was a kid. .....and as the saying goes, "Only difference between men and boys...." you know the rest.

What does RTV stand for and why is this the material of choice ? Does it cast nice detailsl, easiest to work with...or...the cheapest ?

If I dug out one of my old ModelRailroader magazines, I could find the "Lego" method. It looks as though it is popular regardless of what "theme" you are into.
