  • 33 watts for a little boat like that?!

Those pumps sound a bit thirsty to me.

I was seeing 3.5A at 12V. The rating on the pump says 4A.
Not to bad a current at max voltage.
Given one would easily power the sub, and two are only used to steer.
Throttling them down should give a much lower amp draw.
But you still have the power if needed.
They are nice as they are self contained units.
      Time will tell I guess.
DonO's wife is installing two in her 16" Teskey FS1.
They should work very well in that sub too. BD

I checked the one I have today and saw the same draw of 3.5A @12V under static load. When I dialed the power supply down to 7.5V, the current dropped down to 1.5A. You probably won't want to run these pumps much below that power level. Of course, being that the ESC's are pulse width modulated, maybe you will see a little better efficiency than that when running at the slower speeds.

I just wanted to point out that the Rule pump is on sale now at Electronics Goldmine.
It is a $75 pump sold for $25 normally, now at $8.
And I am in no way connected to this seller.
I just think it has good potential for many projects.
I am hoping when the new Moebius Proteous is released that it will be a good option for that sub too. BD

A little more work on FS1. The first battery was 2 cell at 2100 Mah. Have switched to a 7" tube to have room for a waterproof switch and 3 cell batt, 1300 mah. I need to find a way to attach to the camera battery. It's much smaller but 2 cell and 2300 Mah.

                Looks great.

                I like the simplicity.

BTW I was talking to Mr SiFi sub today (Rick Teskey) about pumps and I had a massive brainfart.
It just came to me a way to get differential steering using only one pump.
It would take up less room and only require one ESC.
I will toy with the idea when I get back into the shop. BD

Sounds interesting. A Y shaped exit pipe with a flap valve in the center?

You been talking to my good friend, Mr Pita?
He gave me the same response. You two must have spy's in my brain.
I have a design for a servo operaited Y valve in my head.
Now it has to be let out and constructed. Lol BD.

How about drilling Y-shaped tubes in a disc. Rotate the disc to direct the flow.
Rotation of disc causing flow into one nozzle only. Reverse rotation directs flow into the other nozzle.
No rotation directs flow into both nozzles. Or like hydraulic spool valves.

Or rotation directs flow into one stern nozzle and one bow nozzles to spin the boat like a pinwheel?
                      Scott T Just a thought.

                        Rotating valve idea.

Hi- I have 2 Rule pumps - 280 gal/hour - and I'm considering using one or both as stern thrusters for large test bed sub ( Kind-Akula). Has anyone calculated the thrust provided by the pump with a .380" dia. outlet at 12 volts?

                                Thanks.
