ID:	135947 latest update WTC has now had its final test, took it down a foot under pressure and left for an hour and then switched the transmitter off to test the fail safe. all worked so far and no leaks. charging and balance leads fitted to charge externally so tube does not have to keep coming out the sub for recharging.

Charging a battery in a closed cylinder is a dangerous practice. Gases produced from charging have been known to ignite.

I'll agree with Bob. Do not charge in a completely closed cylinder. At minimum have an opening that you can have to allow it to "air" out. I do this on my Walrus and Skipjack. My Gato, type IX, Seaview....oh all my other ones, I remove the cylinder and pop an end off. It really is not a big deal to do that. A little bit of time/frustration is better than a sunk sub.

As a practice, it is a good idea to have an opening because sweat and condensation can happen. If you leave it sealed in your tube, there will be corrosion happening. It is a best practice to allow things to dry out. So, charging should not be an issue if you do open it up.
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

I agree emphatically with both. Murphy's Law is a CLEAR AND PRESENT Danger
