Sure wish I had the skill to go in that direction with my own boat.
Which "skill"? This is my first injection molded kit since years, the last was a 350th Missouri with RC conversion in 2006 i think. In the mean time where card models only.
The main "skill" for the planking you need is time!
The first plank was glued with an ruler taped to the deck for alignment an cured over night.
The following planks where attached with a spacing jig (small .010 strips on a .080x.080 stripe interfering with the deck spacing) and the said ruler to get them straight as possible.
Need aprox. 15 min per plank.
Those planks are absolutely AMAZING. BZ, Mr. Ober!
USS Harder construction has been indefinitely suspended as the Porteous Yards have shut down, reconfigured, and are about to reopen as The Vulcania Ironworks]Nautilus[/i] will soon be back on the bench after a long delay and an inspiring meeting with build partners Will Oudmayer and Neil Schmidt. But not to worry, Harder will return to the ways as soon as possible, as she fully stole my heart long ago.
I'd like to join the party if you fellas don't mind? I have a Gato kit that is just screaming to be finished. The excellent work you guys are doing here is quite inspirational. I am not very Fleetboat savvy so I'd like to ask for your help and input on my project. I plan on building SS-250 FLIER. Photos are really tough to find but I have a few good ones of her that will be enough to get me started. So if you don't mind me asking lots of questions, I'd like to get started.
Welcome to the wolfpack. (Someone should start with some japanese targets )
A good choice with the Flier, as it was in the same flight with the Cobia there are no large modifications needed to the Kit. It was launched with a mod 3 sail and got a mod 4 sail in 45.
I didn't researched further into this configuration as my Gurnard had a way different one.
Wayne Frey sent me this boat as a gift years ago and it runs so well to this very day. It came with a Subdriver but I replaced all the seals with BigDave's and added his RCABS system and blew off the gas. Works great.
Thanks Wayne so much for this boat! It was partly built when I got it. The hull was together and the drains cut. I did the rest straight out of the box no mods or after market parts,
