    Hi,
Examine the photos of the reall u boat i think that the conning tower rails are quiet thick so i decide to live the revell rails.(not to mention that i was bored to replace them).
I only replace the lower railing and the steps with 0,4mm wire.

      Gents,

In the following pic, is the housing to the left of Erich Topp the UZO?

Also, note the nice MG34 on the starboard side of the tower. Now I gota get me one of those for my boat, whenever it arrives of course.

      Thanks

        Brad-
to Topp's immediate left is the attack periscope housing. The railings at the top probably protected the persicope head, or were hand railings...but in this photo the periscope looks to be completely recessed in the housing.

Ok...It just doesn't seem like there would be room for the UZO and the forward scope in front of the attack scope. Must be the angle of the pic taken that is confusing me.

          Thanks

            Brad-
I should have said to his left in the photo. To his actual left is one of the ventilation housings...this photo looks like it was taken from the edge of the conning tower, or from the wintergarten. You can see the shadow of the photographer on the man that Topp is looking at.

                today I took the big

today I took the big step : putting together the hull halves.
I am happy to say they fitted reasonably well (others have
                reported serious problems with this)

I started at the rear, putting the pins in the holes and
taping the halves together at the place of those pins.

With all pins fitted and taped I applied CA glue with an
old screwdriver to the seam (on the inside, again
                working from back to front)

I fitted the axles and I have glued the lower tower to the middle deck as well.

Still have to finish the upper tower console before painting
the insides and putting it on top of the lower tower.

                  Thanks for posting the picture

Thanks for posting the picture Ronald. Your model looks good so far, and it's been enjoyable watching the progress you've made.

BTW- I read on the Fine Scale Modeler's board that at least one US modeler has ordered their Type VII from White Ensign models, and is expecting it next week. He paid more for it, but I have yet to hear of one other one in the states yet.

Also, he mentioned that their photoetch deck may not be available til the April time frame.

                  cheers,
                  Sam

                      Thanks for the offer Thomas.

But my provider seems to work again, I think i'll stick
with that (old dog, new tricks..).

Nice pictures! keep 'm coming. the wooden strips in the
tower looks very real. did you paint them or is it real wood ?

for convenience, click hereto visit the hyperscale forum

just as a coincidence I finished constructing my (upper)
                      tower today as well.

                      have a look

can you spot what I was busy with until the big kit
                      came along

                        Ronald,
                        Nice job from you too

                        Ronald,
Nice job from you too in your tower im looking forward to see it paint.Nice job on the deck too.
I have paint the wooden strips in the tower.First i "scratch" them with 600 sandpaper and then paint with XF-59 desert yellow, wash them with dark brown and then dry brush them. The periscope is unpaint but polished with the Sn'J polishing powder and it really looks like real steel metal.Im planing to do the same wheathering job on the rest of the ship.

nice work on the conning tower. I especially like the polishing powder on the periscope mast...very well done. The weathering you have added for the riveting on the side of the tower looks very convincing as well....

                            Very nice work you both

Very nice work you both are doing!

For the anal types out there, don't forget to add the single row of rivets along that short reinforcing strip that runs around the lower/bottom edge of the tower.

Now of we could just get these things to show up this side of the pond!

Jeff, that sounds almost like a challenge..

I placed the uzo and the hatch.
                              Still looking for a decent
wheel to put on the inside of it.
I also put on the hatch lock, which was bolted to the
attack periscope to prevent the hatch from falling on
                              you while climbing out.

And I did my first painting. I always paint everything
a very dark color to begin with, then apply lighter colors.
This way the shadows are more prominent.
And everything you miss later on does not stick out
                              in white.
