    I finished up the new

I finished up the new motor installation.
The retrofit was easier than I had first thought, but it was close on having enough room.
I tested the system in the laundry tub and I was really impressed with the power of the little 380 motors.
The drives are designed for 600 sized motors so I was not expecting as much thrust as I got.
The lower amp draw will give a longer run time too.
I can't wait to get her in the pool for some more testing.
Here are two photos of the drives assembled and installed in the FS-1. BD.

      Nice work Dave. I like

Nice work Dave. I like the pictures of your efforts and the videos of your trials and tribulations with this creation. It seems that the physical dynamics of that little yellow wonder is most unstable in the first place.
Your efforts to get that shape under control is most admirable.
      Cheers

Well bubbleheads. This time I think I got it.
At least as far as the system is concerned.
The new motors are working great and she is much easier to control.
I am still going to do some more fine tuning with the trimming.
Now it is just getting use to how she handles. The tendency to dive is very annoying!
It is kind of like flying a tail dragger airplane. You have to pull back on the stick untill you get some speed to keep the nose up.
She will really do some slick underwater flying.
Here are a few photos, and I am working on a short video. I was attempting to do some knife edge flying.
Keeping one of the wings out of the water as I did a circle. Kind of like a shark fin. BD.

BTW- Don't any of you 8-balls faint but you may notice that she is painted!

Wow. There must be one helluva fight going on in the cockpit between Capt Crane and Lobsterman.

                Looks a bit too buoyant

Looks a bit too buoyant to me.

Perhaps stick a bit more lead in the belly?

                  Actually it is not too

Actually it is not too bouyant.
I tried it with more weight and it was very hard to control.
I tried to get better underwater shots but it is hard to shoot and run at the same time.
I had her scooting along underwater quite nicely.
I can spin her like a top as well with the twin drives.

BTW-I think maybe Captain Crane had one too many pints of Grog and fell asleep at the controls. BD.

                    That doesn't make any sense

That doesn't make any sense to me. More weight should lower the c.g, which must be very low in the case of this boat anyway. Hmmm, strange.

                      Remember I am not trimming

Remember I am not trimming this sub as a normal low CG boat.
I am trying to keep the CG as close to center as I can to make it more responsive under water.
That said I have tried different ways and CG positions and the low CG lower in the water trim was very squirrely.
I want it responsive but not overly hard to control.
I am getting close but it will take time. BD.

                        I don't think static stability

I don't think static stability is going to be any match for the thrust vectoring you have at your fingertips on that model, Dave.

Nice Job there BD !!! , She's looking better every time you take her out for a spin, kinda reminds me of Orca at SeaWorld when she turns sideways and waves back at the crowd

BTW, that doesn't look like a quality SteamBoy video

Maybe she's over powered. Have you tried cutting the voltage in half?

                              I really could have used

I really could have used you Steamboy!
Lets get that home improvement done so you can come out and play.
Cutting the voltage in half is just a matter of not pushing the ESC stick to far.
Switching from the brushless motors to the brushed motors has cut my power by 1/2. It is like flying a plane, it takes time to learn. BD.

                                It has been a while

It has been a while since I posted an update on the FS-1.
After a really bad run at the Subron-4 event last weekend I decided to make some changes in my design.
I found out my leak came from having some wires bunched up in the Otter box that was not allowing the box to seal properly.
I have added a pressure tap to the box so I can check my sealing each time I button her up for running.
I also redesigned my jet nozzle linkages. I took out the flex cables and installed direct links which works much better.
I also had the pleasure of running the FS-1 yesterday with Mr FS-1 Rick Teskey.
He makes it look so easy.
But I had the best run I ever had.
I will post a few photos of my new mods later. BD.
