    Hey Steve, I did some

Hey Steve, I did some measuring of my static kit hulls today with a vernier caliper and even a 2.5 inch WTC will have some room in the Sea Wolf hull. I decided to try one of Mike Shubar's main WTCs in the Sea Wolf but still have to work out what I should do about the ballast tank. I am interested in seeing some video of your RCABS system before I do that system though

I am also going to be looking for someone who has created for WTCs down to 1" as I am thinking about eventually trying to RC my 1:230 Revell Skipjack

I know there is a subcommittee member who has done a lot of kitbashing of small subs and if anyone knows him and could provide a name I would appreciate it.

    Thanks

    Byron

      Gentlemen,
not exactly the american wtc-type but very nice too.
The Seawolf belongs to a user of the german U-Boat board.

          It may be but I

It may be but I thought it was Jim something. I saw his photo and some of his small boats, a Revell Skipjack included I think, in one of the back issues of the SCR I purchased.

I tell you that was one very useful investment and I would recommend any newbie acquire as many back issues as you can afford. Particularly with the 2 for 1 deal that is going for issues 31-51.

That would be me and Mark Jones, we both like to work on model kits that we can convert to RC, right now I'm working on two kits that the same time, the Kilo kit using Dave's WTC kit and then the Seawolf using my homemade WTC and wet servo and motor..
When I get done with that, I will tackle the I19 Jap WWII sub.

Steve, that Ranger III has a SMALL reciever and I mean small!
it's also a 4 channel unit, the ads I seen said it's a 3 channel but the instructions said 4 channel option.

I need my airpumps right now to finish two subs.

                      Byron,
                      If you want to see

                      Byron,
If you want to see a video of the first RCABS equipped sub in action, go to My Webpage and click on "Documents", in the left hand column. You will see my Alfa operating in a 40 ft. test tank. My L.A., with video camera and missile launcher, also utilizes the RCABS.
BigDave adapted the system for his WTC's, which he sells. You can get RCABS 'ready made' from him, or adapt this flexible ballast system youself, to suit your own preferences or WTC size.

Thanks Art. I have some of the components to create several small RCABS systems for plastic model conversions. I really like the concept much more than Propel based systems for a variety of reasons.

Once I get all the pieces and start putting it together, then you might get a few questions...

                        Cheers

                          Byron,

                          Get busy! It's so much

                          Byron,

Get busy! It's so much fun to build subs. I thought nothing would ever top making and 100 mph plus scale jets. There's just something about all the tinkering that appeals to me so.

Water is just thick air. Most of the same things apply to hydrodynamics as they do to aerodynamics. But then with subs there's so much more.

My airplane buddies chuckle at me. They think it's boring and easy. Wrong. They'll get it one day.

Too bad you don't live out here so we could have building sessions in my workshop-hanger-wolfs den.

                          Steve

I've built RC aircraft for years; they arefun; but there really is very little to think about; get the CG right big enough motor etc
Subs require a lot of thought and ingenuity

                              Some are. but most of

Some are. but most of my work was tackling early Luft46 designs of the German towards the end of the war.

I've been working on a large TA-188 for over a year now. It was a real ball buster to get flying right. But after a year of working with engineers and other builder pilots in both the UK and Germany she finally flies well.

But for the most bpart your right. Just buy a RTF (yuck!) bird at the LHS shake the box and your done. Borring.

Here's a short video of the maiden flight.

                                i've been in R/C for

i've been in R/C for the past 8 years and started out in r/c trucks. then i moved to r/c micro helis and now i'm in r/c subs. I like my r/c truck hobby since it was so much fun to drive my 1/10 electric truck, but i only got 4 min run times and those modified motors were a pain to keep in running condition. i moved into r/c helis, but it wasn't much fun to fly b/c one, i sucked at it and two, i was so nervous i was going to crash and turn $800 worth of helicopter into junk. then i moved into r/c subs (despite not even having a pool) because they're so much fun to build. i learned that when it comes to enjoyment, building is the fun part and driving the vehicle is just icing on the cake.
