    Re: New project aquesition

I have changed the thrust deflector to a lower and further back point in the water stream.
This way hopefully I can get more of the thrust pushing the stern down to keep the bow lifted up.
I may even have to have them with a constant upward angle.
I have a similar thing in my Seaview. BD.

      Re: New project aquesition

I decided today to add adjustable non-controlled deflectors to the output stream.
They will be set at an upward angle and give a constant thrust to push the stern down.
Don just thinks I should run the Raider upside down. BD.

interesting... makes perfect sense. almost all my fast electric hulls have adjustable trim tabs.... you are simply doing the same thing here. for the same basic reason.

Don's idea makes perfect sense. It's a space ship, therefore top and bottom/ up and down are relative terms. But as an out of the box idea what if you put upward deflectors on the pump inlet to work as bow planes? PITA

That may help at speed but the dive tendency is immediate. Any FWD movement.
I was thinking of adding jets on the underside of the bow powered by taps on the pumps to add some upward thrust to the bow. But one step at a time is best. Hopefully the current mods will help. BD.

How about a trim tab underneath the bow adjusted to push up to counteract the nose pushing down.
I thought we were running out of ideas...

More foam up top too make it harder too dive and in the wings if they are not already glued shut.

Whatever modifications are made almost certainly will need to be variable and tied to the speed of the Raider. That's why I earlier suggested some form of "bow plane" equivalent that would provide the required force correction. BD's idea of trying to do it through the stern nozzles, if it works, is a really good way to do it.

It will be there working or not.
                      Looks like great weather Rick.
BTW The wings are glued shut. I was thinking of sealing them off to act like outriggers to stabilize the tilt.
I can still do that if necessary.
I like your foam in the cabin idea and may do that anyway. BD.

Can't wait too see her up close.
I think more foam is the answer as high as possible as no matter what she wants too dive , more foam will let her dive only so far like the fs-1 but will stabilize and the lifting force of the foam should over come the dive force of the hull shape.
If that does not work you can always sell it to Sponge Jim... LOL

Well I got an email the other day from that Rick Teskey guy
He had a few ideas on how to get the Raider to run without turning turtle.
None of them worked for me as mine was built different than his.
But he got me thinking about this build again.
Like I don't have enough to builds going.
It did get me thinking of a few ideas.
One in particular was to make the outer wings of the craft moveable like ailerons.
So not wanting to wait I cleared off part of the bench and started on the modification.
Not an easy job as I have to install big bearings for the wings to swivel on.
It's going good so far. Photos when I get more done. BD

I got the bearings in so the wings can swivel.
Just have to make the linkage.
They will not swivel this far but it gives you an idea of how it looks. BDClick image for larger version

                              I see a question coming..........

With all that wing tip area pushing against the water while moving, will the main body have enough effective counter pressure to keep the main body from turning instead of the wing tips?
