    New project aquesition

While at the Carmel Subrun it is SOP to visit just about the worlds biggest Hobbytown.
Bob G who works part time at a Hobbytown says there is one bigger.
But no one will argue this place is not HUGE.

While meandering down the plastic boat model isle I saw a good sized box with a Battlestar Cylon Raider on it.
SpongeJim saw me fondeling the box and said he had one and the model was actually much larger than the box.
After I heard that the force was too strong for me and off the the register I went.
I actually resisted the urge to open the box till I got home.
    And Jim was correct.
It is about 18"x 13" and more than big enough for RC.
Not sure of how I will do it, jet pumps, or the Teskey type bilge pumps.
But it should make a cool sub. Stay tuned.BD.

Red eye = red LED's with a sequencer.

I've seen some LED kits for the electric ducted fan jets that duplicate the exhaust and afterburner.

Sea story time. Many years ago I was stationed at USCG Support Center New York, on Governors Island, about 1/2 mile south of Manhattan. I worked in the Industrial Division as the ATON (Aids TO Navigation) staff engineer. Governors Island had it's own fleet of ferry boats, with a dock in Manhattan and on Governors Island. The ferry docks had fog lights, strobes that flashed in a specific sequence, to help guide the ferry boats into the slip. The fog lights were old and we couldn't get parts for them any more. Ten new strobe lights and two sequencers were purchased by the Facilities Engineering division, which asked Industrial to install them, since we had more experience with ATON. Before the new lights were installed, our Electricians tested the lights and sequencers in their shop. When I went down to the shop, the lights were off, and they were playing some Bee Gees. When I walked into the shop, the foreman activated the strobes. Five strobes were on each side of the shop. One side was flashing a 1-3-5-4-2 sequence, and the other side was flashing 2-4-5-3-1.

I have done some brainstorming on different systems and think I am going to go with two PPJ's.
(Protchenko Pump Jets) designed by crazy Ivan himself. (Just don't tell George)
I am thinking one small cylinder in front of each PPJ with a RS380 motor, ESC, and servo.
The RX in one of the two. Then a center mounted battery tube.

Sorry if you don't have an Apple device the photos will be upside down.
Just stand on your head to view them.

I never should have started working on the Raider.
It is consuming to much time.
                I can't stop.
It will be a really fun model.
Here are a few more photos.
Still not 100% sure of how I will go with the installation. BD.

                  Re: New project aquesition

I did some testing on the pump jet and RS380 motor and found there was way to much power for the craft.
You rarely hear me say that.
I was at 3/4 throttle when my over current protection shut down the ESC.
It was at 12 amps on my watt meter.
                  The thrust was extremely thrusty.
But given this has two motors and pumps I would be drawing close to 30 amps at full stick.
The motors may melt the cylinders and my battery would last about 5 minutes.

So I have enacted executive order 48 and installed a low current Johnson motor.
Still giving very good thrust! BD.

Dave will the little P.A. pumps not fit?
The stated draw on them is 1.7 amps but they draw less than stated and as a combined motor and pump should take up less room and give a good thrust and run time.
I still have not received my "hull" yet so I am chomping at the bit too see what else you try.

The P.A. Pumps would fit fine and would have been a much easier build for sure.
I am sure they would move the Raider fine but I just had to go with the more powerful PPJ's.
I had never used them in a model before and I need approval from Ivan.
Well he has not sent his Cossacks after me anyways.
If all goes well I should have it running for our international run next month.
You will be very impressed with the size when you get the kit.

                        Here are some more photos.
I have the two motor/servo cylinders done.
Now I just have to figure out the RX/battery cylinder.

Are the esc the same size as micro vipers?
A pair of 2200 lipos or smaller.
