As far as ordering new Buna-N O-rings, lets say the original sub-driver O-ring cross section ends up being say 1/16 of an inch in diameter, not sure if I should enlarge by a full or half 1/16th. So go with a cross section of 1/8th or 3/32. The other question is should I keep the original inner diameter or outer diameter? I am also wondering how much I should enlarge the grooves to accept the new rings. I imagine there would be manufacturer specifications listed with the rings that shoudl be followed.

I would not double the diameter of the o-ring cross section....unless we're also talking about modifying the end cap. You also should try to keep the O.D. of the o-ring itself as close the that of the original o-ring.

I believe I have narrowed the o-ring down to a 2 3/4" OD with 1/16" cross section. With that in mind, I would go with the same diameter and a 3/32 cross section which is listed as a #145 o-ring. If I want it by this Saturday, I might get lucky and find it at a Grainger, or similar place. Amazon only in 50 packs, with a 2 week shipping time...

Wow, I swear I am not an idiot. I am looking at my very own picture, and somehow got the size wrong. Clearly that is a 2 1/2" wide O-ring. So I need a number 141.

Hi Ralph, what type of material do you make your cylinders out of, and what do you use for seals?

It was some time ago that I bought these parts but I will do the best I can.
I can measure the o-rings tomorrow if you like.

Poly carbonate tube #8585K47 I bought 2 24" lengths.
PVC solid rod #8745K28 I bought a 12" length.

O-rings where from the O-ring Store.

End cap o-rings.
1/8" diameter cross section with an inside diameter of 3 1/4" and 3 1/2" outside diameter.

Push rod o-rings are 1/16" inside diameter with
Shaft seal was 3/16" inside diameter for stainless shaft.

It has been a long time since I ordered o-rings.
I bought 12 of the large o-rings and 24 of the control rod o-rings.

Now, I have also gotten control rod o-rings at the local Lowes Hardware store.
They have several sizes hanging on the wall.
