    OTW NACKEN BUILD HMS Neptun

Restarting this build since there was a long delay. Picked up this beautiful hull from Bob Dimmack of OTW Designs. The kit comes with the hull, planes, snorkel and the monstrous, 5 bladed prop. I will be using a custom WTC for the build but Bob provided the motor and mount that he includes in his custom tubes. I decided to model the HMS Neptun since it is now being made into a museum. Some really nice photos of her during the restoration and fitment for museum life.
First shots show the cradle and upper hull bonded to the lower. I am also starting on the tower detailing when I get bored of the mechanics. More on the tube and running gear later.

Getting the tube reassembled. Location is almost there and the linkages are next.

Are you using a planetary box on the motor or direct drive?
          What is the motor.
          Looks great! BD.

I just reread Bob supplied the motor.

He usually has a planetary box if I remember.
But can't tell from the photo.
You will need some good torque for that prop.

              Dave,

This motor is direct drive. Bob says he has no problem running it direct on the larger props. (Nacken and Upholder)

Reassembly of piston tank. Plan to do a check on the operation this weekend. Calculated the volume via foam block, all parts above waterline and a pool.

                  Vorsprung durch technik.

I recognise that piston tank controller. I'd put some decent spacers under that board, as the h-bridge chip does get surprisingly warm when in use.

A couple shots of the progress. Linkages are in and very stout. Also started the limber holes. Much less to to compared to the WWII stuff but still a real pain.
Only the first round so they will get cleaner with time.

Got the limber holes squared away and took some shots. I really love the proportion of this boat. Short and stocky! Internals are slowly being worked out.

Still waiting for some final wtc parts so I did some detail work on the tower. Railings are in.

Very nice work! Those rails came out nice.
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

Still waiting for parts to arrive so I tackled the nav. and stern lights with acrylic. Also put the periscope deck in to start mounting the goodies. My current plan is to have everything in the down position except for the attack periscope. I like to have multiple scopes with small breakaway cuts. Our club is filled with boaters who do not look for the subs.
