    New project

So I started designing a new project. Smaller this time, about 1,1 meters long. As this is an U.S. based board, the boat might be recognized:

    Nice subject.
As you know there is a lot of information, photos and even hull drawing on this boat.
I will enjoy watching your progress.

Hull drawings would be nice, as the bow section is partly improvised

Interesting, I have found a photo during original launch that shows the under bow very close to what you have.
Your research seems to be spot on.

I am finishing up the patterns for the 1/72nd kit which should be out by mid summer since I now have help from Don S. There are plans out there. Some are wrong, some are really wrong. You have to pick carefully through the available hull lines and determine which is correct and which is not. The bow is a tough one. It took me 3 months to get the 3D CAD right for it.

I recoginzed that there are some really wrong hull lines out there. Also the front dive planes differ in many drawings from what one sees on photos.

With respect to the bow: I actually noticed that it would be a bit complicated looking at your CAD drawings Thor. The current version took me the best part of a two week holiday. I had to do some smaller compromises, as I plan to make the middle section out of a 100 mm plexiglas tube. So I could not draw features to far back. For the deck I plan fotoetched parts. And the interior:

With respect to the bow, I don't think that I'm so far off:

The stern is also a tough one, mostly because I'm aware of about three versions. Seems like it got modified it allot of times.

It was modified a bit, but not nearly as significant as the sail and lower bow. Those went through significant transformation.

They changed the bow as well? I'm aware of several changes of the propellers and the original Nautilus had two stern torpedo tubes. I've seen photos of later versions where the tubes were gone and the whole stern section got a streamlined cover.

I thought it was the other way 'round....she was built without stern tubes and the tubes were an addition later on?
