You will need to find a local ham club that is giving the test out.

A side benefit to this is you can get a vhf/uhf radio to talk to your fellow submariners at a regatta or on the way.

please note: for our use, you only need a "Technician" license, not the full license. also note the following excerpt from the link:

"At the end of the book, you'll find the entire Technician Question Pool."

which means, if you can answer the pool of questions, you can pass the exam.

The technician is the first test. All the questions that can be asked are in the book. The test is multiple choice.

There are also apps for the iphone and driods that give you sample tests. Just study the questions and answers, you really don't even have to what any of it means.

Re installing these modules in older transmitters, isn't it easier just to take the board out of the module box and install it directly inside the case?

that takes the fun way, will try on the next one just like other diy kit.

founded a old Futaba gold transmitter from ebay. it turn out to be a put down, all I have to do is to plug in the orange module done it works all 7 channels!

It looks to me like those modules work with futaba but aren't compatible with turnigy. At least the ears on the module is 90 degrees off.

transmitter (the control unit)is from US east warehouse.
the 9XR pro will talk back to you "water, water, sinking. sinking" sorry diving.

all the the RF modules and other junk to support the system is from china warehouse, it may take up to 30 days to show up at your door.

just got a JR/circus hobbies Apollo 7 from ebay. the orange JR RF modules does not fit in all the way, have to remove the RF shield and make a new connector.

So stick to the old Futaba and Hitec (almost, have to open up the orange case connector window just a bit ) for easy set up.

if you have your heart set on the JR/Turnigy/frsky module, you can buy those at hobbyking as well, both 100mw and 1w, they just are more expensive than the 100mw futaba/hitec/flysky modules.

The Hawkeye brand (the "official" OpenLRSng hardware "sponsor" ) is available at several stores, as well as the auction site we all know and love but it is considerably more expensive, however, it does have a few more features than the basic hobbyking/OrangeRX models.

Hi Tim,

This 433MHz stuff kept my running in the background of my CPU. I have made some inquiries concerning the Belgian allowable broadcasting frequencies more in depth. It's allowed to broadcast in the 433 MHz but with a max power of 10mW.

Are you still running the TX at 6mW output as in the beginning without any problems?

If so this could open some opportunities for me.

Okay,

first, the readings from the immersionRC power meter, testing my year old 100mw OrangeRX futaba module, powered by my robbe fc-28:

setting - milli-watts
7 - 73.73
6 - 30.57
5 - 14.51
4 - 6.14
3 - 2.84
2 - 1.24
1 - 0.72

this is with a 3 cell lipo powering the radio, and as you can see, the real power output isn't quite what the manufacturer claims.

I left the module configured with a power setting of 4 - the highest level lower than 10mw, and turned off all the telemetry settings. i set the timeout for failsafe to be 2 seconds.

I then configured the failsafe servo settings so the submarine would blow its ballast tanks and turn its lights on when it dropped into failsafe.

I then ran over to the pool and shot some video.

video #1 is 3 minutes, and includes a test dive to 5 feet... which causes the failsafe to trigger
