Just so you guys dont think I have given up on this thing, I havent. It just takes twice as long to do body work on because it is twice as long.

I just put some primer on tonight and low and behold it pointed out more blemishes. It is starting to get close to final paint though. I have also finished constructing my WTC.

Shes pretty big. Takes nearly the whole garage.

I have been making a detailed Missile Hatch and its coming along fine. I do however need a few more shots of the assembly. I have maybe a total of 3 pictures I got of the net. If anyone has some pictures they would like to share, I would appreciate it very much.

Yup did that yesterday. That is off a Lafayette class boat I believe. If all else fails I am going to just use it to fill the gaps.

Hopefully this falls under the categpry of "better late than never"...

Here's how I did the Granit missile doors on my OSCAR.

                        Door closed:

                        Door open:

And here's a closeup of the innards. (I can't believe how dusty this thing looks!)

I tried to replicate the real OSCAR's hinge and actuation assemblies. The outer two pivots are the door hinges, the center piece is the actuator. The actuator connectes to a bellcrank in the bottom of the missile bay so that a pushrod (moving forward/aft) will cause the door to open and close.

                              Thanks guys,

                              Thanks guys,

I made the hinge pins from very short lengths of 1/16" brass rod secured on either end with a tiny dab of silicone. I actually started out with small lengths of music wire, but they had a tendancy to rust and then didn't want to come out when I needed to get them out.

Don't worry Dave, the Granits (Shipwrecks) are coming...

Well Kevin dont forget to show us how you make your missile system as it is something I am working on aswell. I am almost glad, in a way, that the US missile hatch is not so complicated.

That being said, I have begun painting the boat with the exception of the missile deck. It still requires some work in the missile hatch area. This is going to be my area of focus tomorrow, as well as the prop.

Here are some pics of what I have so far.

I am starting to question weather I want to put the towed array tubes on the stern of this boat now. It is such a long thing that when you are handling it one wrong move and whack something is broke. I have already broken a prop due to negligence and I am afraid the tubes will have the same fate.

Ow word of advice. Dont dry the paint on a white metal prop infront of a heater fan. It will start to melt
