Originally, I had U-96 painted

Originally, I had U-96 painted like Jeff's model. Later, I came to realize that U-96 would not have had the Red lower hull. So, I repainted it dark gray. These photos were taken in my den. There are two Offical French photos from Brest, and the shadow box with a piece of the concrete from the bombed area of the U-boat Pens.

The OTW tower is

Hi TD,

The OTW tower is a complete brass build. Yes, the tower brass desk came with the kit. The turnbuckles and insulators are resin and came with the kit as well.

Basically, I used the two brass tower sides and the two deck plates. Most of the other accessories were made from brass plate, or brass rod stock. The tower lip has a brass rod soldered to the upper edge all the way around from one end to the other. The UZO and binocular's are cast and I made the central ring from brass rod. I made the stacks and screens from brass plate, and the loop antenna housing is made from brass plate. The antenna shaft is like a old screen door bolt, you lift up on the loop, turn 90 degrees, and it drops down into the brass housing.

All of the brass support structure for the winter garden has to be hand made. The running lamps on the tower are hand made, and include a inner brass tube. I can slide a LED into the tube to light the tower for night running.

I used computer PC SCSI wire for the U-boat cables. The SCSI cable is heavy silver plated copper wires. I stripped three wires from the PC cable and twisted them to make the U-boat cables. In time, the silver will tarnish and look fairly realistic. Last, but not least, the sawfish are hand painted on the tower sides.

VERY GOOD .As I said before,your boat is TOP SHELF.I really want to get started on a OTW like yours,maybe this winter after I get U-407 taken care of. I`m glad that I did a smaller boat first just to gain to knowledge before jumping into a big boat.

Your a nut. Too big and not finished off very well. Where did you learn to build models? I think you should go back to school and learn how to build. Or take some lessons from Merriman.

God I'd hate to see your CGI work. Must be scary. I bet you use a Mac and Maya. Typical! PC's rule with Lightwave.

I've worked in motion picture visual effects for over 30 years now. Everything from Star Trek the Motion Picture to Ghost Busters. Don't quite you day job kid! LOL!!!!

AUGGH!!! Steve!!! Dont say that! EURRGHH!!! No way man! I use a PC and have been a lightwave head for 6 years. Now though I must admit... I am a Cinema 4D head... We used it to great effect on our last underwater series [German-based production for History Channel and I havent seen finished product].

It sound like your U-407 ran into the Polish Destroyer Garland and the Destroyer HMS Troubridge and Destroyer HMS Terpsichore (like the original U-407). However, you U-407 was not destroyed and sunk. There were 48 survivers, including the Captain [OL Hans Kolbus]. U-407 will live to patrol again...
