    Where's the building!!!!!!

Ok guys. I'm sure you all have a bunch of excuses for not building. Talk is great but it gets boring for me when I see no action!

I've been here about a year now. Not quite. But in that time I've built the Seawolf, Type 7, Kilo, a Dumas Akula, scratched built a GW class (with David Merriman's help and vats of encouragement) and a scratch type 17, nearly done.

Now my life is not so sweet either. My career in motion picture effects over the last few years has gone to h ell in a hand basket. Can you say outsourcing is good for the country? Got the IRS, State and City after me for back taxes. Currently out of work and my wife has been battling breast cancer. If ever I had an excuse I have many more than most of you.

Now I want to see some d amn building here! Either kit or scratch build lets get off our lazy sorry a ss butts and do it! Lets turn off the elevator music on this site and turn up the rock and roll! Or some darn good classical music. LIKE BEETHOVEN'S 9th!

Now what the h ell do you have to say for yourselves? This is not just a hobby as some like to think. This is a darn passion. Burt Rutan started with a hobby making RC airplanes. Look where itr ended up! Wernher von Braun started with a model rocket hobby. He got us to the Moon! And it goes on and on.

So to those of you that say get a life. It's just a hobby I say hog wash. Think again.

If you want to see young kids get away from drugs, rap and gangs hobbies can do that too but you got to show them the passion and it will create a better future to be sure.

So lets kick A here boys. Lets try to inspire and create!

      I recently built what I

I recently built what I think is the first Teskey Flying Sub with RCABS. It has two infant bladders, one on each side of a central WTC. Shakedown cruise was a few weeks ago. I changed it from 7.2V to 12V, did a little more adjusting on the trim, and it runs well now. I'm taking it to Hawaii this winter, (with a Whipray skin and tail on it), to shake up a few guests at the hotel swimming pool. See pages 1 and 2.

          Gotta get in on this

Gotta get in on this one Steve My Tecumseh now has 30 hrs run time, no leaks, but no underwater camera either.
Here is where I am on my Type II.

          Hull not received yet
2 Astro flight geared 40's waiting
          2 Engel 750 tanks waiting
Plans from Loyalhanna Dockyard still on order

          My Virginia from Submarineworks
will be shipped within a week or so, just got a note from Pete.

SSY is reworking the Akula molds, so will be a few weeks out yet.

So, while I have been accumulating parts, planning, dreaming, I took the time to remodel my workshop and clean it up.

Rutan builds spaceship, Von Braun his rockets-- no way I'm building a full size sub.

                  [color=#000000]Well U815,
(Breaths in deeply) I'm not yet a member, so no photos, but I have been working on the electronics for my sub. I ordered some samples from a German company (magnetic rotary encoders) The Website stated that samples wwould only be sent to companies with an website and email. I used my schools and laugh out loud they shipped them to the school. So now I have 3 of these little pups. However, I didn't notice they are SMT's! Surface mount, meaning TINY little chips. So, I had to make a little pcb board to expand out the pins. For this I used MS paint, drew the pin-out, mirrored it, printed it on laser photo paper, ironed it on a piece of scrap unused pcb, used some ferric chloride to remove the unwanted copper, used a needle point soldering iron, installed a 90 degree header and v-ou-l-a I have a breadboard ready angle sensor. It has 10bit resolution meaning 1024 counts to a circle instead of just 360. So, it will have an angle resolution of .35 degrees. It outputs this absolute value using a SSI (Synchronous Serial Interface) My micro-controller will use three pins to read the 10 bit value]

                    Easy there Big Fella,
Give us newbies a break here,I am just about finished with my ROG U-407,had some problems inroute, but nothing a lot of screaming and carrying on didn`t cure. Had it in the water for a shakedown cruise last weekend,a few leakage problems, nothing to get upset about though I to have other issues that demand my attention. My wife is waiting for a double lung transplant, and I have been waiting for my recalled defibulator/pacemaker to be replaced, plus trying to finish rebuilding the engine in my show truck. So are we still having fun.I really would like to thank everybody that has helped out in one way or another with this project, espically Big Dave for taking the time to answer my stupid questions.I couldn`t have done it without all you guys. By the way if I can figure out how to do it I`ll post a few shots of the shake down cruise

I wish like other forums you could just manage attachments and upload differect from your hard drive to SC. But you can't you have to have a server for this site to upload to and then you create a link to it here. And real pain in the rear but I have a big server with lots of space.

                        Stoene,

Wow. Great stuff. Lets see it when you can.

I'll try to take a few tonight and email them to you. You've already seen my 598 boat on the other site. The typ 202 is coming along now. In 1/32nd scale it's only about 2 feet long! Pretty cool little boat. With its Kort nozzle type steering it can turn in about the diameter of a hula-hoop.

Mike out, or 'Down Scope" as I used to say in the Report!

                              Jeff,

                              I realize this about

                              Jeff,

I realize this about your site. I'm not knocking it! And I am a member. But you still have to upload to the member home page then create and image link to it. It doesn't allow you to go above 640 X 480 and it makes it hard to see details on some of these builds at that size. So I have taken to uploading to my server to post larger images. It takes awhile to do this as you know.

All I'm trying to do here is help. Get some more building threads going and provide help to those that can't wade through the process to post images. It will help a great deal to make this site more interesting IMHO.

Writing and talking about the builds and models is great but good pictures add so much more. Video too.

I realize if we get more members and more money that these things can be effected in time but for now I'm offering my time and server to help. That's all. And by showing more action I think we could increase membership as well.

So far I've heard from you and Wheeler once each. First time was from Wheeler busting my chops about having an event at the same time as Tom's in SF. I immediately responded to Wheeler's post which called me counter productive like some bad little kid. So canceled my event out of respect. I didn't know at the time that Tom was having an event 450 miles away from mine. I asked Wheeler to remove the post which he did. I never even got a thank you. Gee Steve thanks for understanding and working with us would have gone a long way.

I then talked to Tom on the phone and he knew nothing about this. Thought it was silly for me to cancel when my event was in LA and his in SF. Especially with gas prices he didn't thnk too many people would be coming from LA.

So please give it a rest. I'm only trying to help out here. Nothing more. I would have hoped my contributions to this site through my building threads would have been more appreciated by the management. I help people when ever I can. You know that.

As far as I can see you took offense to my comment about the site's limitations. I can't help that. Maybe I took your comment the wrong way and if so I apologize. But I got the feeling your were ticked off just like Wheeler was about the event thing. I will not be treated like a bad little kid here. I'm a 53 year old man, not a kid and I have done nothing wrong.

Of course some of the folks here are none members. I'm sure they will join in time. But I don't think that there contributions should be held back because they aren't members.
