Hi Mark -

I saw one

Hi Mark -

I saw one at Wal-Mart in the toy department about two weeks ago for $19.95 - it isn't as cool as the ones you make but it is only $20.

I got one of these

I got one of these 13" subs from e-bay. I think for the price it is pretty good. It uses thrusters for all movements. Uou can move forward and dive at the same time, so movement is uninterupted. Pretty cool for $20 bucks. Looks good too markings and stuff. I comes with little ballast weights to level it out if necessary. At Lease Wal Mart sells stuff at reasonable prices. No offence Vendors

]http://www.subcommittee.com/forum/icon_smile.gif it's range was pretty

]http://www.subcommittee.com/forum/icon_smile.gif[/img] it's range was pretty good for a toy,20-25 feet without loosing a signal.
so now I'm going to do some more work and see about how long it will run on Alki batteries before I switch to Nhims.

My Soon to be wife loves playing with this sub, I think I might have to buy another one just for her

Then again she knows I'm buying that Akula under the bed!

Any other mods I can use on this boat?

Hello Mark,

I also got one of these $20 "wal Mart Submarines. I've already done several modifictions on it.

1) Modified the 6 Volt battery pack to 7.2 Volts.
2) Modified the stock prop & made a prop shaft extension so that the prop is where it's supposed to be.
3) Used 12 volts insted of 9 volts on the sub's controller to get a longer runtime.
4) Replaced the stock "wire" antenna with a super flex or "rubber ducky" type of antenna for better signal range.

Check out the submarine thread]www.rcuniverse.com for the details.

Regards,

Clifford

I've seen them on Ebay.

I've seen them on Ebay. But, the Walmart in my area don't carry it. I wish they did.

Try to order from Wal Mart's website. The motorworks brand submarine is officially sold by Wal Mart. The item # is 13000. The new version has large stern fins and slightly better performance & operating range for a pool toy.

Good luck!

I'm getting mine this week-end,

I'm getting mine this week-end, (hopefully!) seems to be a good buy. No rudders... can the prop be easily removed? I want to make my own and install it, the two bladed one doesn't look good. I tried searching the item on the Wal Mart website, how do you search by item number? Can anyone give me any tips? I also want to give it a new coat of paint (black on top, red on bottom)

Try E-mailing Wal Mart & give the item # 13000. Ask (if Any Wal Mart Stores near you) when will they have that item available in your area. E- bay sellers are selling them for almost twice the Wal Mart price.
The prop can easily be removed. Use or fabricate an appropriate coupler for the prop modification/extension.This toy sub uses a side thruster motor to turn left or right.
If you do upgrade the sub's power to 7.2 volts, this toy sub will really zip!! The USS Dallas version is already black on top, the bottom part (red-brown) does need to be painted red.

Do you have any pictures of the upgrades, I'm interested in the 7.2v batery pack you had made and how you connected it
and the 12 v connection for the transmitter.
Mine works great, took it down to 11 feet without losing the signal or having to go bail out the sub.

My local WallyWorld had 6 of them (3 each Chicago and Dallas) on the shelf an hour ago. If you want, I could pick one up for you tomorrow.
