    Anyone know other online vendors

Anyone know other online vendors who sell the sub? (besides Wal Mart) Been on eBay today, you can't imagine the price there (52$ Canadian Ouch!) I saw a couple of them on the US eBay site but they are only shipping them within the United States.

      Well I just picked this

Well I just picked this toy up. Being one that has converted model subarines into free running or rc for years I didn't like the way this model dives or stears. first mod I did was to take off the stern dive planes and trim them so I could put them back on the opposite side. this allowes the toy to start a slight dive while running. and if I wish to quickly dive you just hit the dive button and it is like a high angle dive and is easier to control under water. another thing that this stern plane mod does is allow you to keep it under water easier while using one motor. no moer killing your batteries using 2 motors while running straight. the other thing that this needs is an actuater to actually move a rudder. they are easy to make and there is plenty of room for one but I don't know if the actuators are strong enough for the hydro dynamic forces that are placed on it. it might need a hacked micro servo for the rudder and put a resister on it so the rudder turns slow so it will be easy to center while running as a hacked servo will not center on its own. do research on actuators if you wish to make one they are used alot in micro rc planes. and the really tiny rc cars that is what makes them stear. I still think taking the electronics out of a micro servo will work better. and just wiring up the motor up to the stearing leads.

with these 2 mods I predict better under water performance. and if you add the upgraded prop heck you could control this fairly well under water. you will never get scale operation on the surface. so you might as well mod it for scalish operation under water.

as for the stern dive plane mod. this is just easy as trimming the angle off the attachment tab so you can attach it on the other side. and if you don't like the way it works just take them off and put them back the way it was.

          finally got a pair of

finally got a pair of subs from wal-mart. tested one of them out, and found out the that turning performance is really really bad; severly underpowered. so the start of my modifications include a longer rx antenna, and closing up some of the holes at the top of the hull that i guess are used to allow air bubbles to escape but in fact allows some of the side trust to escape when trying to turn. since my turning ability is bad, i am trying to get all the thrust possible. when i stop by radio shack, i hope to get some battery holders that should give me more voltage and run time.

oh, and while i ended up buying revision 2 of the subs, i "undid" one thing they modified. the 2nd revision of the subs have the stern dive planes (i assume that's what they're called since on a real sub they help make the sub dive) had some of the plastic angled up. i heated them up and flattened them, then used that as the rudder and took the rudder parts and made them the stern dive planes. the reason i did that was because while this revision 2 modification was to help keep the sub from diving under full forward thrust, instead it made the sub just cruise along the surface with the nose pointed up at an ugly angle. i'd rather waste battery power keeping it from diving rather than make it look pathetic as it cruises on the surface; maybe it's just me...

                  Heck yes I did, man

Heck yes I did, man are there alot one can do to this little sub!
the adding a rudder and using the props as the servos was excellent! I need to get those pictures copied over for my records
and work on this project, that sub can be a very good sub with small mods.

                  I'm smiling

                    I did manage to do

I did manage to do one upgrade to my Nikko Shark which is roughly 6 inches long, I added extra lenght to the antennea last night and man the signal now reaches reaches a good 25 feet instead of only 10 feet!

Now to finish the Red October and a suprise for the group..

a very small XXi boat..21 inches I think..

Did you add length to the wire or move it 6" further out of the boat?

I finally found a Walmart that carry them and brought one. I'll checkout the "rcuniverse" website for the mods.

                            the subs are quite good

the subs are quite good for scavenging parts for my model subs!

I was dissapointed by the radio receiption being intermittant, so i have dismantled it.

I have used the main drive prop stuffing box for my WTC because it is easy to open up and regrease!

Also the periscope is a useful antena holder too.

                                I may be wrong but

I may be wrong but I believe that the sub is manufactured by "Motorworks" and is exclusive just for Wal-Mart.
