And who's the mud-eating peasant in the background of that scene?

        Re: Triva

Are you thinking of the next scene?

I think that would be Terry Jones as the old woman who says "Dennis, there's some lovely filth down here"....

          Re: Triva

No, I mean the mud-eating peasant (in the background) at the end of the scene where the corpse-collector makes the comment on the King that was the subject of last question.

I know it's a different kind of question than the earlier questions, but I'm just curious to see how far your knowledge of MP stretches!

            Re: Triva

I think this is a trick question.....I do not recall that there are any mud eating peasants in that scene. There are several peasants scrabbling around *in* the mud......but except for the last little bit of the scene faces cannot be seen. And that last peasant is picking something off a small branch but not eating it...whatever it is.

              Re: Triva

Sorry guys, I made a little foul-up here. My question relates to a scene that was deleted in the final cut

The scene was played by Michael Palin as a mud-eating peasant. You can still see him in the background at the end of the corpse-collector scene, when the king rides past.

It's a pity this scene was deleted (maybe because the film was too long, I'm not sure), because filming it was one of the very rare occasions where Michael Palin lost his temper. Of course, the "mud" he was eating was really chocolate, but the scene had to be done over and over again for various reasons and the chocolate became mixed with the real mud. At some point, it all became too much for him.

By the way, did you see the documentary "Monty Python, almost the truth" which was aired a few months ago (on BBC anyway) in honour of 40 years of MP? If you're interested, I recorded it (in VOB format) and can e-mail it to you.

Now, I'll try and think up a proper question for this quiz.........

Ahhh! That explains why I wasn't seeing it where you mention it!

re: Python special - no, I managed to miss it the one time it was on. How large is the VOB file? I'd love to see that special!

Jeff, I recorded the programme on dvd and then transferred the contents to an external HDD. The programme has been divided over a number of VOB files. I can e-mail all of them to you separately if necessary. PM me about the e-mail address you want me to send them to.

                    Robert,

                    PM sent!

Also, in the scene following the one you were referring to, I'm thinking that it was (also) Michael Palin in the background eating the mud.....?

                      Re: Triva

jeff, PM received! I will send the VOB files sometime in the next few days.

Yes, I also thought that it was Michael in the background of the next scene, but I'm not so sure now... I'll have to check. Not today, though; it's now 2330 in this time zone and I have to get a few things ready for tomorrow morning.

Robert (still thinking about a proper question for the quiz)

I think the 4th one stayed up?

                              1) sank into the swamp
                              2) sank into the swamp (?)
                              3) burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp
                              4) stayed up

                              ...did I get it right?
