    US MBT Vents

    Hello all,

If you had to describe the colour of US MBT vents what would they be?

    USS Seawolf SSN-21.

    Peter.

    The same as the rest

The same as the rest of the bottom of the boat, black. Or red if your doing an older boat with the two tone paint job.

      Don,
      You are upside down. Floods

      Don,
You are upside down. Floods on the bottom, vents on the top.
They are stainles steel, no paint unless some topside gang gorilla painted them when the inport vent covers were off.
      Bob.

        You're talking about nuc vents

You're talking about nuc vents Bob. Fleetboat vent systems were under the deck and were painted black along with everything else under there.

            Rick,
Last time I looked "USS Seawolf SSN 21" was a US nuke and not a fleetboat. But I could be wrong due to advancing age.

It appears peter is refering to the USS Seawolf for color of the MBT vents.

Peter, we normally use etched stainless steel inserts for the vents but any color duplicating stainless will do. You can also use stainless washers with the bolt pattern lightly punched into them.
            Bob.

              Thanks guys,

I am building the Trumpeter Seawolf and am using (the British size) 8ba washers but they are not easy to get in stainless, I do however have lots in brass. I have a tool that rebates the hull slightly so that I can get them in flush, I have tried various different silvers but can't make my mind up which looks best.

              Thanks again,

              Peter.

                Could you used nickel-plated washers?

Could you used nickel-plated washers? The metal colour is different from SS, but at least it is silvery metal. Might rust with time though.
