It is a non-expensive project, it will be very funny to see running and historically accurate.

                    G'day all,

i'm currently finishing off a small model 900mm long of the Chinese Type 092 XIA SSBN. I like the look of this boat however have been hampered by the fact that photo's of this boat are incredibly limited. I am building it with only one screw as several sources including Jane's say it has only one. others say two, oh ,well.

What's below the waterline is pure specualtion unless someone can enlighten me....

                    regards,

                    david H

                      Hi guys,

I'm currently rebuilding my Robbe U47. This time the rather leaky/buggy system disappeared. I permanently glued the whole thing to a one piece boat and made a hatch. Under this hatch there are two large access points to the internals of the sub, with aluminium lids. A bit old fasioned but it works better then the original Robbe setup. The thin ABS wall is fortified with Epoxy to a nice 5mm thickness. The WTC is now 120mm width and about 800mm long. I now have a lot of space to work in. Pictures as soo as she's ready.

I'm still working on my OTW 1/32 scale German Type VIIc U-boat [Das Boot U-96]. On my next Christmas break (4 weeks vacation), I plan on starting the internal work, WTC and etc. I haven't made the decision yet whether to go with Dave Merriman's, or to venture out and build my own using a high pressure pump ballast system. I'm still wrestling with this one!

After talking with a friend at the Uboat.net... I decided to repaint the lower hull and get rid of the red primer and the light colored bow and stern upper plates. Also, the sawfish well be repainted green (not supposed to be black). I have invested nearly two years working on this project. The brass tower took about three months to complete because most of the structures were fabricated from sheet brass and brass rods.

At the rate that I'm going.... I'll probably get this project completed in a couple more years. That't OK with me, I'm in no hurry. I look forward to comming to one of those Sub Regattas with a completed Type VIIc U-boat.

If anybody is interested in seeing what I have done thus far, then please look at]http://www.81x.com/dprince/PhotoAlbum You can down load the photos and they have much better detail.

Hi all.Well i have finished my 1/96 scale Skipjack class from D&E Minatures.I bought it second-hand (basically as kitted) and she runs great.(Big thanks to all you guys who helped with advice and suggestions..).The next project on the go is the Type 7c U-Boat from O.T.W. The metal etched deck, the hull detail, the accessories..all superb quality.. (I hope I can do it justice in the building!). I am in the very early stages of construction, and am saving the dollars up for the O.T.W. W.T.C. to put in it.
I am intending to build as close to scale model as I can, and I know that there is a huge amount of pics and info available about the Type 7's...but if anybody has photos of the original U-616 that they would be willing to share, then I would really appreciate that...I want to build the boat as U-616,and ever since I got interested in subs,I have been fascinated by the story of this boat, which was the quarry of the longest U-boat hunt of W.W.2. Happy sailing to you all.

                                I've started building an OTW

I've started building an OTW type VII (to be modeled after U-552) and am learning the fine arts of both scratch building, searching through numerous books on the type VII, talking with Jeff LaRue and others, and spending long hours at train/boat/model stores scrounging for parts which will work for various appendages. So far I have built the deck gun (in the firing position) from Andrea Miniatures with the 3-man gun crew. I also have the Andrea Miniatures conning tower crew (5 figures). The deck gun from OTW I built in the dive-prone configuration. I figured that I would epoxy threaded studs in the figures feet/legs so that i can bolt them to the deck, or remove them. Same with the deck guns...interchangeable. I am about 60% done with the conning tower construction and am trying to take as many digital photos to chart the construction process.

For my other project, I just recieved a Thor Seawolf...(great kit). I hopefully will be starting this sometime before christmas.

                                Jeff
