Thank tou for those pictures Gantu! There are definitely many views that I have not seen yet. I still have time before Groton fun run to make some changes. In fact I was thinking about printing a new rudder, but I was concerned about how robust it would be....

Fairweather has allowed for the trades to commence painting of the hull, however the paint system used performed less than ideal and the topcoat is still tacky 3 days later. Paint layup was performed under environmentally controlled conditions, using the proper primer for the topcoat system. Sanding on the faulty coat has commenced and a new paint system has been procured.

The weapons depot has delivered 2 new weapons for the ship, the paint system used by the depot obviously performed much better than the one used for the hull. Might have to investigate what the weapons depot uses further. The was some debate about what the weapon color scheme was supposed to be, but the depot is assuring us that the supplied weapons are painted IAW the applicable standards for the weapons.

            MS Hecht:

Standing ready for sea-trials and initial operations for the season.

            Typ XXIII U-4712:

Further materials have been procured. Work on this project has been on and off over the last few weeks as trade efforts have been focused on MS Molch repairs. Outside shipyard commitments have been progressing and completions points are clearly defined in the near future, thus freeing time and resources to continue this project.

              Breakfast Club Report:

              MS Molch Project:

Paint trades got a good crack at the first re-coats of the hull on Saturday morning and continued into Sunday. Results were much better this time around. Weather hindered any further painting for the week though. The color shades initially laid down on Saturday were not of the right formula per the specifications, but the correct shades were located on Sunday and the results are good. Hull painting to recommence at next break int he weather.

              Typ XXIII U-4712:

U-4712 project work has remained static as all resources have been allocated to Molch repairs and outside shipyard commitments. New tooling has been procured for use with this and further projects, awaiting delivery.

                Breakfast Club Report:

                MS Molch Project:

Unexpected good weather over the weekend allowed the paint trades to apply several top coats followed by sanding. Protective topcoat was applied and paint trades have concluded the bulk of their work.

The riggers were able to mount the weapons after the paint system cured. This evolution went with out incident and the riggers went on to reload the shaft and prop into the hull.

Work remaining to be completed is the battery compartment mounting, some rudder work to include possible configuration changes and rudder preservation. Control linkages are being refreshed and lubricated. Command module top-load will be the final overhaul item prior to weights and moments running a check on buoyancy and ballast

                MS Hecht:

Status is the same: Awaiting initial launch and seatrials. The cover was removed from the training basin, however the training basin is in need of repairs this season. Components have been procured.

                Typ XXIII U-4712:

New 3D manufacturing tooling has arrived, Alignments and initial operational check in progress. It is larger than the current in operation machine. The build area is big enough to do nuke hulls in sections and diesel hulls in half sections

                  MS Hecht:

                  Sea trials by 5/16.

                  Typ XXIII U-4712.

Alright, been a few weeks. Wife had me working on a bathroom project and the Groton SUBEX2022 was over the weekend of May 21/22. The report from the SUBEX is that HECHT ran really well and MOLCH had a few issues the ended in a mud dart incident on Sunday. The ballast pump tube came off the end cap of the OTW cylinder and the engine room and the forward compartment flooded. In addition, a previously un-noticed crack in the battery compartment made itself evident via flooding in that compartment also. Repairs are underway, and a new battery compartment case was ordered and has been received.
