Do you guys have an idea if the base is going to be shut down in terms of access for non-citizens again this year?

Would love to go... this time.

        Bob,
We do not know if the Groton Sub Base is open to the public.
        You could contact Ray Mason.
This event is at Carmel Indiana.

          Bob,
I suspect that the Security Dept at Subase has not relaxed their stance regarding non-citizens. A shame, too, as we always enjoyed having you guys and girls come visit. Much has changed since 09/11/01 and NOT all for the better!!!!!

If I recall the story from last year, I was all set to attend (Groton, not Carmel!) and two days before the event they yanked permission on me and any other non-citizens. Apparently the base commander got upset that he wasn't informed that the event was taking place and made it a mission to punish those arranging it.

That could very well be! Sometimes folks get upset that way. A new regime was coming into place at that time, as I recall. The new CO (CAPT Curtin [sic]) did come to visit and found one of the attendees was an old classmate of his, so they had a nice visit. He seemed to enjoy the time at the lake. One of our recently returned SubRon 4 guys is also an old acquaintance of his.
Security is weird, 'cos each player in the chain gets a vote. What's ok for one person may not be for the next. Holders of clearances have no idea how close they are to losing same just based on a whim of some investigator, whether the concern is real or imagined!!!

Is the President taking air force one to Carmel, or is he travelling with the V.P in old silver sides?
