I am looking for a set of Type II plans. Would like to start laying up a hull over the winter. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thank you,
Bob
The best source of Type II plans that I've been able to find to date are available through Taubman Plans Service ( http://www.taubmansonline.com )...which has been bought out by Loyalhanna Dockyard. The plans you'd want are the Gerhard Beck plans, part number GB-793. This is a 4-sheet set of 1/50th scale plans that is very comprehensive.
There are also plans in the Fritz Köhl book [i]Vom Original Zum Modell] which can be purchased through http://www.amazon.de. These are on par with the Beck plans with the exception that there is no good, detailed deck plan.
Hi the planes for the Typ II from original zum modell are not available. I called the publishing house there told me there not printed because the original plans are in a bad quality.
Yup, stand-alone Type II plans from the book [i]Vom Original Zum Modell] have never been available. Some of us have scanned them in at a high resolution and used them....and they're actually pretty good!
Matt,
I provided two sets of drawings....the first would have been the Gerry Beck plans (4 sheets) and the other was the Hans Sievers plan (1 sheet). Both have very good cross section drawings.
Ah! Well I can tell you that the hull sections were dead nuts accurate. The 3D model will show out of place or mishapened cross-sections like a sore thumb. The plans we put together have resulted in a gorgeous 3D model and it is as smooth as a baby's butt. Whoever researched the plans did a fantastic job. The finished molds should be as nice when completed.
...and I've got masters done for the fore/aft dive planes and rudder....and have made the molds and cast parts. The A-frame and bow guards are in progress.
And of course the deck drawings (main and conning tower) just need to be refined to 'fit' the specific model hull.
I'm going to build out that intermediate hull that you made for me (and Sam!) and plan on having it running by Spring. It'll be a good way to check that my parts all work.
I have had the planroll for the Type II for many years now, a good friend of mine in Germany sent them to me at the same time he sent me the Von Original von Modell book.

SUPPLYING YOUR HOBBY IS NOT OUR HOBBY
Jeff, Sam, and I have been working together on this now for almost 3 years on and off. Much more off than on unfortunately. It will NOT be produced as a kit. It is only intended to provide Jeff LaRue, Sam Reichart, and myself with a boat to build. The molds are being be CNC machined out of HDPB. After pulling those 3 hulls out there will not be much left of the molds and that will be the end of it! Other than the upcoming 1/48th GATO(WAHOO), I have no intentions of ever producing another production kit again.
Jeff and others. What would be a better purchase as far as the Type II? The plans from Taubman or the Vom book from Amazon.de?
I also found a gentleman from Michigan that is selling an 80" hull on ebay. Has anyone seen any of these? What type of quality are the hulls?
Thanks
Bob
