    SCI-FI FIGHTER SUBMARINE

Last year, I built the RMMV minehunter but found it's performance to be lacking. I also had a tail heavy issue so I set it aside for a few months. After looking over the parts and a fully operational WTC, I decided to give it a new life. This new boat follow the diesel punk or Captain America styled vehicles. Post WWII is what I am going for. Work has commenced on a new tail and nose piece to adjust the proportions and reduce some of the a$$ weight. I also built a Me109 style canopy. Tear down is going really well and the linkages will still work for a new "traditional rudder and bow plane. Prop will be inside the hull with various cutouts to feed it.
Paint is going to follow a German WWII mottled camo with some accent colors. No need to paint this one black......

    The starting point:

    Darrin,

Slick concept! Reminds me of something that might have been seen in "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow".....

Will you try and operate the lower rudder too or just use it as a stabilizing fin?

Lower fin will be the main rudder, bow planes for dive and some sort of upper v arrangement when I decide what looks right. Sizes may change a bit during testing.

Spent some time on the gun pods today. Not sure of the placement yet but it's starting to look like a different boat. Did the bondo squeeze trick over paint for a perfect fit.

Linkages are finally all worked out. Rudder barely clears the tube and the dive planes are a bit unconventional. Slop free........

That is cool! I love out of the box designs when they're done right!

Got the detail parts sanded and fitted to the hull. Liking the proportions but will slim down the bow planes a bit. I also need to do the tail bits to see it all together.
Still a bit worried about being tail heavy but the new tail cone is much lighter than the previous models impeller, brass stator and brass prop blades.

As suspected, I was a tad tail heavy. Building some pods to lighten up the rear.

Got the pods mounted and will start to blend them to the hull this weekend. More than tripled the volume of the foam above just to be safe. I can always add weight.

                          I like it.
I really like that there are no rules and anything for the most part goes.
I also agree with more foam to start with because it's much easier to add weight.
It's small and easier to shape to any location.

Years ago I thought about taking a C-130 kit and making a sub.
                          I got over it.

Some final renders to show all the components and a paint direction. I hope it runs well so we are not wasting more time on this pig.

                              Darrin,

Cool idea! Perhaps continue the 'theme' and do the mottled gray on gray that Luftwaffe aircraft like the Me 109 aircraft had on the fuselage.
