    OTW's new R-10 Class WW1 sub kit

Bob Dimmack at OTW called me a few months back to tell me about his latest kit in development. As always Bob does some of the nice work I've seen and always goes for unusual subjects which I as a model builder greatly appreciate.
WW1 boats are amazing subjects as they were the forerunners of all the great boats we see in WW2 and modern boats today. They were the first.

This boat is 66inches in length. As usual Bob likes to make big boats, another preference of mine. Big is beautiful.

So this begins the first build of a submarine I have done in years. The last two years were spent doing a variety of different model and prop jobs for clients at our SNG studios now in Ventura county.

The boat will run on one of the OTW dive cylinders, one of the very best IMO. They are in a word, bullet proof as they can be.

For those of you that don't know or haven't heard my wife of 30 years died from cancer last Feb of 2013. We fought a hard battle for nearly 5 years. It damned near killed me and severally damaged my health. Here nearly a year later I have recovered, had surgery for 5 hernias(all from caring for Gilly), met a wonderful girl named Mary, moved to Ventura where Mary and I share a studio and work together. I am truly blessed and thank the universe.

So lets get to the boat. It should be here the end of the month. Bob sent me some pictures of my hull and parts to show you for starters and of course there will be more to come!

Thanks Bob! And this will be covered in my SNG You Tube show.

    Steve

You'll be wanting to double the area of the rudders if you want it to turn. The 1:1 R-class had a poor turning radius and the models fair no better with scale rudders.

Can't wait to see it Steve. I am parallel building Bob's Nacken with you so it should be like old times. Lets get them done and put a run together.

Side note, love the machinist vise on the aft end of the conning tower. You have to put that on!

Great to see you on here again! Of course, I'll be following your build closely—very unique look!

See you sometime in February in Anaheim as we've discussed. We'll talk...

Kit on the way. Bob shipped it yesterday. Here's some pictures of what is being sent. The OTW cylinder will be to follow in the next few weeks I should have plenty to do to get this started in the mean time.

Thanks Bob so much for this opportunity to build this historic boat and be the first to do so!!

                      Hi Steve,
That is a beautiful sub. The detail of the hull is very well done.
                      Bob really has quality subs.
Can't wait to see it sailing and I know it will be another masterpiece of yours.

His type vii, type xxiii and seehund are all excellent models. And you won't find a nicer guy to deal with.

Well guys I have been doing SNG (Steve Neill's Garage) for 433 videos now and in all that time there haven't been many shows on subs.
I do a daily video Blog Mon.-Fri and have for two years. I document the daily routines at the now "SNG Studios" in Ventura where we make everything from monsters to props and models for collectors and the studios.

I will post pictures too from time to time. The show has thousands of subscribers and over 850,000 views and is the prime source of our income and contracts.

As I get into the build more I'll start doing pictures and text but the body of this build will be documented on video. At one time that might have been a problem but today we have better bandwidth and streaming and video is quite common.

I will of course write my articles for SCR with pictures of this build in parts.

Thanks to Bob for this opportunity and amazing boat she is in a word, Beautiful!
