    New Engel 212 build.

Always the guy that has to be the first one on the block with the new toy in the neighborhood I have acquired my first Engel kit.
I have worked with the Engel tanks, even built my own piston tanks, and helped others build Engel kits.
But this is the first one that is MINE MINE MINE!!!
I was on the email list for the new 212 kit and was contacted around Christmas time that the kit was just released.
The English manual was not ready yet but I ordered the kit as a X-Mas present too myself.
The English manual would be sent as a PDF through email around the middle of January. (And was)
Due to the Christmas season and a huge storm in Europe it took a while to get to my door. (Engel’s shipping is usually second to none)
But it arrived safely and packed very well.
I am about 2/3 of the way through the build now and really like the kit so far.
They did their homework and designed an easy to build and well made sub kit.
Having had two 212 hulls before I really like the way these hulls handle.
X-tail baby!!! The only way to fly underwater!!
The sub is built as a techrack type like the Engel Lafayette sub is designed.
The sub uses a bayonet ring to seal the inside against the evil water egression!!
My plan is to have the boat ready to test at out next fun run in March.
I will start posting photos of the build soon.
BTW-Color me Happy Happy Happy!!! BD.

      Hello Dave

The Engels kit always as beautiful and quality.
This 212 is really well detailed, it is small, but fun with this model

I just stuck the planes and prop on to take the photo. BD.

            Dave,
Could it be built in a week if you applied yourself???

              Hi Frank,
I would say to just get it in the water, yes.
The manual says it can be built in a full weekend if I remember right.
But I would say that is wishfull thinking.
Although the manual is very good some things need to be read through a few times due to the German translation.
But Engel did a great job with this one. BD.

                STUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!! Ha!!

Here is a photo of the Techrack mounted to the rear section.
I pressure tested the hull today and she holds!! WWOOPPEEEEEE!!!!
The sub is basically done except for trimming, painting, and detailing.
Yes George!! I will be painting her!!BD.

What a beatiful model. And build up almost in a week . My envy has no limits . I'll wait for further news from you about this thread, cause sure it's going to be a very much enjoyable thing to see the sub sailing.
                    Regards from Madrid.

                      Re: New Engel 212 build.

Ramesh (Wheelerdealer) has one of these on the blocks too. He rustled up a little mini-review which should appear in the next SCR within the Fox Schedule section.

Ramesh thought the hull was an injection moulding, but I reckoned the tooling costs might be too high for a model of this nature, and suggested it might be cast from PU resin.

                      Any ideas?

                        Andy,

I believe you are correct. I saw one of these hulls and it appeared to be a very tough resin of some sort. I don't think it is injection molded. It sure is pretty whatever it is made from !

Yes since cutting into this, it is infact resin, the same tye as they used in the detailed conning tower/sail in thier Typhoon.

My 2 hull half exterior dont meet up vey well over a quarter of the circumferance, going to need to build it up with putty/filler. Trying to get maximum throw on the planes without the connectors hiting the propshaft is proving a little ticky.

That might be a side-affect of different shrinkage rates of the resin.

However they molded it I think they did a really fine job.
                              At least on mine.
It should not take much to smooth out any spots on the hull.
I questioned Engel on the linkage throws and was told the boat only needs 15% throw to turn I belive it was.
I can say with my two other 212 boats that is probably true.
                              The X-tails are very efficent.
Once you get the rudders on and the linkages hooked up you will see it should have more than enough throw before the yokes hit. Dave.
