Thats good to know about the X tails. I'll leave it as it is and save me a head ache. Heres the differance between the front and back halves of my hull. One side is a perfect, but on the other the front hull is rather high. It involve the bit where the turtle deck goes so that has to be sorted it it is ever going to sit level.

      Re: New Engel 212 build.

I was going to build new yokes at first but then thought about it and said I will build it as is first and see.
The yokes are so nice that it would be a shame not to use them.
My hull is off a bit where yours is as well. Not as much, but once the turtle deck is on it is not noticeable.
I think once it is black unless you really look for it you would not tell.
I think anything I would do to make it better would screw up the good scribing and look like crapola in the end.
It is hard and I am sure the front and rear sections are not molded as one part.
This could easily cause them to be a little off.
I did not bond my rear turtle deck all around the edge either. I just tacked it to the upper bulkhead and two places in the rear.
This makes it look like there is a separation line like the real boat.
I am having a problem with the piston tank causing RF glitching. It is the metel gears I am sure.
I am going to try an SL-8 R/X as it has fixed glitching for me in the past. BD.

I worked on making some scopes.
Unless you buy the optional scope lifting gizmo none come with the kit.
I think it adds too much weight up in the sail and did not want to spend the extra money anyway.
You can see my Neill 1/96 212 in the background.
I used K&S tubing and Plastruct to make the scopes. BD.

Well I have the 212 ready for the YMCA this weekend.
Once I have tested the sub and all is well I will paint and detail.
It is too dam cold to paint now anyway.
The sub trims out well in my test tank.
I am still having a problem with the piston control board.
Other than that the kit is, as my good friend Steamboy would say SCHWEET!!!!!!!!!!!! BD.

            Fixed my hull problem....

As luck would have it, the reapired area did not involve any scribed lines.

              Excellent job my friend!!
Good choice for R/X too. I have a few Multiplex IPD's. BD.
BTW-Have you run your ballast system yet to see if it glitches?

And I just stocked up on a few of those too + a 12ch RX, as Multiplex seem to be discontinuing its FM range and they are going cheap.

                    Re: New Engel 212 build.

I had the 212 in the water for the first time Sunday at our monthly fun run.
                    She ran very well.
I need a few more vent openings in the turtledeck and maybe 1OZ more weight in the bow but the run was great!
Underwater she will turn in not much more than her own length.
                    Those X-tails are SCHWEET!!
I have ordered the new proportional ballast controller from Engel to try.
Maybe it will solve my glitching ballast problem, plus I like that type of system better.
Now on to painting and detail.
                    Really CI BD.

I see the bayonet ring is resin too. Does it appear to be strong enough? All the bayonet rings I've seen used in boats in the past were machined from aluminum.
                      Warm regards,

                        Hi Paul,
It seems to work very well and is quite robust.
It takes a little more pressure to seat the O-ring as it has a larger cross section but it is not bad.
It was much easier to install than the aluminum rings I have installed before though. BD.

                          BD,

How was the trim at various piston positions? Did you find any issues with bow down (or up) in the middle positions?

                            Slightly bow down on dive.
The piston fills from the front so I guess that would be normal.
The piston is only 500ML and on the CG so the trim change is small. BD.

That's about what I see, though my Seehund is using a 750ml tank.

Are you seeing any hydrodynamic effects due to hull shape? The Seehund is definitely affected, which has presetned some interesting ballast challenges.

All of my 212's seem to handle well.
It is a short boat for its gerth so it does tend to wallow a bit more than the longer hulls.
I was having so much fun I did not spend enough time trimming. BD.
