Tadpole Sub! Yet another strange BD project!!

I have been wanting to build one of these ever since seeing photos of one about a year ago.
I am not sure what the design is called but I just call it the Mayo-Sub.

Don’t ask me why I like it. I just think it is COOL!!

Someone had quite an imagination.
I was thinking it would make a great construction article to show that you can make a simple working sub with just cheap off the shelf parts.
Having nothing to go by but a few photos I started to sketch out how I would build the design with in-house parts.
Starting with acquiring a mayo jar. I finally grabbed one before it was tossed out.
I did not want to use a glass jar so I went with a plastic version. For me using K&S brass tube and rod was a given!!
My plan was to document the build and parts used and maybe get my friend Paul to draw me up some plans.
Then if someone wanted to build one (if I can get it to work) they will have the information.
This is what was done this afternoon in about three hours with designing as I went. It will use a simple 280 motor, two small servos, cheap ESC, and R/X. More to come. BD.

the plastic jar is not a good idea
the plastic lid is also not so a good idea
the rods are soldered into the lid

you have 4 rods ? look at the picture again
the motor is a 400 speed
the glass jar is the ballast and the strips on the front is velcro
the yar can punch and grab somethings with it

Thanks for the information.
I see 4 rods. Here is a different photo.
The jar as ballast is a good idea but I do not want to use glass as I will never be able to use it at the pools I run in.
My rods have O-rings on the outside where they meet the cap. And the cap has been fitted with an O-ring to seal better.
I am hoping the plastic will work OK. I may actually add some pressure to the inside to keep the plastic from crushing. It is a project so time will tell. Thanks again for posting the links. BD.

the fift rod is

the fift rod is the axe if you look closely you kan see te prop on it
and the picture i posted on the inside you see the coupling in the center of the 4 outer rods
the two extra are for stearing
at the end you see one vertical support that runs from the top to the bottem rod but in the center it supports also the propchaft

I thought you were just talking about the 4 outside rods. Sorry!
I do know the one for the prop shaft and the two control linkages need to be installed.
I have just not gotten to that step yet.
Did you need to install extra ballast? I do not see a battery but I would guess it is mounted on the inside tech rack.
This should be a fun sub to run. BD.

and eugene has drilt some holes in them to support the battery's
and secured them wit tape
thats wat jou see on the front in the jar
on the bottom is a smal amount of lead to calibrate the sub
a norbert bruggen stabilliser is used to make navigate the sub a bit easyer
