I am doing a Vladimir Akula right now, the quality and acurracy really pleases me!!
It happens I have one of Kevin's Oscars, in the same scale. It goes on the bench after the Akula. In fact, I have found on my lunch hours, I can get some sanding time in on the hull of my Oscar.
I will enjoy watching how you do this one. Mine will be a little different internally. For sure I will reverse RCAB mine.
By the way, Kevin offers an LED setup for subs, that has the option of the "Russian flash rate", which he did on his Oscar. If you want to see a good talk on leds (on an Oscar like yours!), get the 2007 Subregatta video. Kevin himself has a lecture on there you would want to see.

Gives you an idea just how huge she is and the massive damage she took.

She will an honored member to the Southern Russian Fleet.

Soon Ill have the Engel Typhoon launched and ready to join the fleet,that would be a sight to see the Kursk ,Typhoon and my Akula II all in port at dock side!

Do you have plans to have those huge doors open?
On mine it will and possibly fire a rocket.
Masts and planes will retract as well.

Love the detail on all of Vladamirs kits.
Oh just a note be carefull when aplying those dry transfer decals ,the paint must be very mate or they wont trasfer,then be sure to seal them in with a clear mate finish that wont curl the paint.
I found some great automotive clear that works very well in water and is flexable,its on the AkulaII.

Keep going she is looking great!

Thanks Eric for the pictures. I am still waiting to here from you so that I can cheat ,er I mean see how you did your linkages. Thanks Dave for the info and the encouragement. Can anyone tell me why in some of the pictures that show the masts, why do the doors not show in the pictures? What do they fold inward or something? I know that they are there somewhere!

I am searching for the one picture that I have of the huge dome mast I dont know the NATO name but its hard to find and Vladamir did not make the unit but it would be on my Kursk.

Notice in this shot of a Akula , the doors around the masts. They are sticking up. Why dont I see that on the pictures of the Oscar?


Perhaps they open , allowing the mast to extend and then closing down around the shaft of the mast to help seal out splashing seawater from entering the mast wells.

I pretty much modeled my

I pretty much modeled my linkages after the Mcleod idea in that picture. It takes a lot of tweaking to get all three rudders to perform the same, but not as imposing as the picture shows. My oscar is kind of on the back burner right now due to work obligations, but coming soon.

Doors for masts open similar

Doors for masts open similar to the Akula. The Cod Eye is an exception. It has one main door, if I remember correctly
