Simple way to use hydraulics is to employ a master cylinder/slave cylinder approach. You can press off-the-shelf' syringes into service with the master cylinder/syringe controlled by a normal servo which can be housed inside the WTC.

Very cheap and elegant.

I did some experiments with some small syringes and found that due to the small surface area a huge amount of force is required just to move them... Perhaps I will try again using a different method.

Whats a stamp controller?

It's a microcontroller board that you can program easily using BASIC computer code. Google 'Basic stamp' to find out more.

I use Picaxe, which is quite a bit cheaper than the stamps, and just as versatile. Also supported by one of the best forums I have encountered on the internet.

What can you do with one these gadgets you might wonder. Well you can control multiple servos off a single channel, flash lights on and off, speed control motors, add timers, failsafes, torpedo/rocket control- the only real limit is your imagination.

So after I got her all pretty I decided to redo all the paint on the boat do to various bottom scrapings and an incidental with nitro fuel leaking onto the hull. I also had so issues with the rcab system not providing enough lift for the boat. An rcab r system could have done the job, like pete has demonstrated but instead I decided to install one of my new MCS system. This would also allow me to reduce all my electronics to one cylinder that I could put in what ever boat I wanted to run at the time and save me money!

What it comes down to is a complete gut with paint body work and internals. I even redid the linkages. I basically built the boat twice.

Depending upon how many hatches you want to operate, how about a cam system for each side—dual overhead cams. That sounds cool. Argh, argh, argh.

the difficulty in that is ussing a limiter to the cam so it doesnt continue to roll over. Also it doesnt provide any force for closing the hatch except gravity and I have already experienced water making them come open while in oiperation.

Perhaps you could put a small dia. shaft all the way thru just below the hinge points on one side only and attach a servo horn to it and then experiment with placement of the servo linkage in the different holes and see what will work. You would need two servos, one for each side.

The hardest part is that they don't all open at once. It is usually one at a time with a short delay. Even missile ripple takes a few.

Just a thought. Maybe you are being too ambitous. Could you perhaps be satisfied with opening up a couple by radio and let the rest open manually?

Well mark..I can't argue that...on the other hand it is sometging to work twords and nothing is impossible. It may take awhile but I feel it is an achievable goal. I want to make as much of this boat operate like the original as possible. I have nothing but time to achieve this and plenty Of space...we will see. I have seen other do amazing thibgs with their massive type 7 submarines. Why not an ohio?

Well here is a shot of the prelim paint job I am now going with. I am going to be doing the pre delivery paint job with a 2/3 red and 1/3 black. I haven't quite got the nose color where I want it but we will get there. This is the scheme she will keep until I get all the hull mods done.

I have also installed my new battery compartment which is a stand alone unit in the bow.

How about using a length of nylon wire tie as a spring to hold the hatches shut.
A cam could open the door and then the wire tie would give enought spring to shut the
door and hold it closed. No rusty wire spring.
