I'm not a chemical engineer but, since I have retired, I have figured out a simple way to turn beer into urine!
Now I'm going to study fish gills to try to complicate the simple RCABS system!
http://www.subcommittee.com/forum/icon_wink.gif Who said any of
Who said any of this has to be benificial...
The rcabs-snort was in jest.
But...
It could be kind of like a scuba diver with an inflatable
life vest. The rcabs or rev-rcabs bladder is there for
emergencies.
Well I got an email from Crazy Ivan saying I should check out this post as he figured I should spill the beans on my Hybrid system.
Long before people were snorting I designed on paper a hybrid system which used a low pressure blower and a RCABS system.
I discussed it with the local Oddballs (8-balls) and ran it by Steve Neill to get their opinion on my idea.
That was about a year ago and till about 3 months ago it was just an idea.
I wanted a model I could test out the system in and I thought the new Seaview would be a good choice.
Well the cylinder is designed built and tested and it works.
My theory was the only drawback to the RCABS-R system was the size of the required bladder and pressure tank. All systems have their drawbacks.
My plan was to use a smaller bladder and pressure tank to control the underwater trim inside of a much larger main tank which used low pressure air to blow in surface trim. This would mean I could still have the simplicity of Dr Arts RCABS system and have much smaller bladders and pressure tanks.
The system as it stands now runs off two channels. I thought about trying to combine them but I wanted to KISS. (Keep It Simple Stupid) The underwater trim is a standard R system which has the MPD in the electronic switch.
The small bladder sits inside of the mail ballast tank and can be placed at or near the center of gravity. The main low pressure system is servo operated and will open a valve in one direction to vent the tank of air, and contacts a micro switch in the other direction to start the low pressure air pump. This forces the water back out the holes in the bottom of the ballast section.
Low pressure systems have been around for years and they are nothing new. Their drawback is they only work on the surface where they can get air.
I was waiting to finish installing the system in the Seaview for in water testing, but I know the cylinder is working fine so with Crazy Ivan bursting I decided to post.
Hopefully it will work out and get the best of both worlds. Dr Arts simple system in a smaller more user friendly package for larger subs.
I will post my block diagram I drew of the system. I just have to find it on this dam computer. BD.

Can't wait to see your drawing Dave because I haven't the foggiest idea what you're describing. Bet it's good though.
My next energy invention will draw life force from herborous sources, converting it to heat. The heat will be transfered to a hydrogenated substance, converting it into an expanded state. This transformation will be used to propel a mechanical armature that converts the motion into a rotational direction, therefore driving a wheel or shaft.
I will call it a WOOD BURNING STEAM ENGINE! It will solve all of the world's oil dependancy. I'll be famous!
I never met you Big Dave, but I admire your
inventiveness and efforts. If I every get over
my lazy period in life I would like to be inventive
like you.
I do not plan to produce a kit for the Seaview.
This one is just for me and a few friends.
Dave and Mike have the Seaview all covered with a very nice fittings set.
I do plan on using the info I learn from this project to possibly produce some new cylinders based on this design. BD.

Got to see david putting his seaview together today and the fittings kit he made for it is very creative. It is interesting how he created bow planes out of the hull. Very curious indeed.
Oh I also got to see that kilo with the "snort" system installed. I prefer the american term LPB by the way! Sure as heck he got that whole setup in that darn thing.
Dave your propulsion system for the Seaview is a work of art. I love the brute size of your impeller! Still confused about you hybrid but extremely curious. The new ideas are the coolest. Keep innovating!
