Do you really need to install an automatic pich controller?

    Doc. - I've seen the moving center weight triming system used in two differnt boats over the years, both of these boats were built by some of the best craftsmen of there time. (early 80's) Neigher seemed to work all that well. The problem seemed to be, as I recall, the speed at which you needed to change the direction of the weight on an on going bases. Also the need to know, almost ahead of time, when you needed to be moving the weight to stay in trim. Today of course, we have better radios, high speed servos, APC's etc. all of which help us in better controling our sub's. It will be interesting to revisit the moving center weight concept and see if it will work better in controling the trim of our sub's then what we have become accustomed to.       Fit a moving weight by all means, very handy for static c.g adjustments, but I would think very carefully before using it as an active pitch control.

      Hydrovanes are best suited for dynamic pitch stabilising, as the reaction is instant and easily controlled.

      Some fullsize subs use weights for dynamic pitch control, but they mover veeeery slowly.
