    yeah,
the advantage of an obscure subject : nobody knows where
    you goofed !

I measured the zagreb boat, up-diddled my ANB drawings and will
build it like it stands in Zagreb.
    warts, buoys & all.

now to find a few consecutive hours just to get going again
    on the model...

I rebuilt the superstructure (it is level, *not* sloped
        as the drawings suggest).

I build a new and smaller periscope housing, different from the drawings too.

and a toy-tank-hatch made a perfect sub hatch.
made a mold of plaster, put in a bit of grease, and
filled it with polyester filler. presto : two hatches.

and the sanding of the hull continues of course...

to take a leave from sanding,
            I formed the "windabweiser" from
            a bit of aluminium plating.
after lots of hammering, it begins to look like
the real thing. getting the curve right is
            tricky.

                Thanks, George.

today's work was learning how to scribe and how
to copy the hole pattern on the periscope
housing. it went fairly well, except one hole in the
middle. I'll try that one again.

                  current progress on the tower

current progress on the tower :

                  just like this

it is hard to recreate those hole patterns with some
                  regularity.

I'm not 100% satisfied, but it will do.

Have you thought about photoetching the holes?

                      andy,

                      yep I did,

                      andy,

yep I did, but that does not mean I have the
                      equipment or materials for that.
But I seem to recall that somebody mentioned
he did have such stuff, hmmmm.

I'll have to re-make it anyway, because it is clearly
too high now, compared to the original.

                        You only need a plastic

You only need a plastic or ceramic tray and some ferric chloride to photoetch.

If you have access to a laser printer you can make a one of a kind etch resist stencil using 'paintbrush' on your computer, and iron it onto the aluminium using a household iron set to 'cotton'.

                          I found another solution.

                          I found another solution.

I had an old circuit board lying around.
a diagonal slice of it gives me a row of
alternating 3 and 2 hole columns.
This strip can then be used as a guide for the drill.

behold the power of the jig !
                          I'm happy...

I tried my luck with the hatches, came out not too bad, but needs a bit more work still.
