New Building Thread. - Sushi Sub!

Hi Guys,
I am starting a new building thread I will be adding to from time to time.
I purchased a Sushi hull from Gantu and will be building it to compete in the Great Sub Races at this years Subregetta.
I am working now on the design of the operating system. My plan is to use a Bayonet sealing ring to open the hull. I am going to have X-Tail surfaces for maneuverability. The power system to start will be a 12 volt 540 motor turning a six-blade 55MM prop on direct drive. This is the same power train in the Engel Lafayette sub. I know how fast that sub is, so I think this little Sushi will fly. If not maybe a little Nitrous Oxide injection will help. Ha!!
Even though the sub is usually a dynamic diver I want to use a ballast system for a little easier control.
I am also planning to build a small piston tank, as I have always wanted to build one.
It will be a kind of having a bunch of ideas and changing them as you go kind of build. Which I enjoy!
This should be a fun sub to run, and I am looking foreword to blowing the doors off of a couple of Delphins at the Regatta. Here are a few photos. This is my bare hull, and one of the finished German subs. See Ya, BD.

Can't seem to put any

Can't seem to put any photos up at the moment. Not sure if it is on my end or the SC end. BTW- Gantu told me to go with a Speed-700 motor. This works for me as it puts out 390 watts sucking 31 amps. Woo Hoo!!!!!!! Zoom Zoom Zoom BD.

hey Dave im new to

hey Dave im new to this hobby and my lovely wife hates it when i start a new hobby but oh well any way im building a 1/144 seawolf from trumpeter and i want to convert it to a dynamic diving because lets face it she would torpedo the more expensive one maybe one day but im having trouble getting started i basically know how im going to build the sub but i have no idea about the electronics that go into it radio set up and adding motors i couldnt find anything that explained the basic principal so do you have any suggestions also i was wondering if you lived in the central texas are and if you were going to GeorgeTown in Aug?

this "sushi" submarine was invented over here in Germany about 8 or 10 years ago as a fun-run speed boat. The molds and forms were made by Stefan Schmitz. He's one of our "speed submariners".

The names Sushi was found, because at the beginning he wanted to build a japanese modern sub. Their Names were very difficult to speak for a german. Plans also weren't available at this time. So got the Idea to call her Sushi.

Nice, that this little funny boat is making its career around the world now

This nice boat with X-Stern and stabilizers is made by Ralf Schmitz....not a brother of Stefan, but a well friend

Thanks for the information. That is very interesting. I do like the Kawasaki green too. I was also thinking of doing the X-tail on mine. I see he has what looks like stabilizers in front of the tail surfaces. Did these help in control. BD.

Hey Lothar,

What about the Delphin? That has a conventional cruciform tail, and I'm getting the bits together to build a miniature (7.5" long) brushless version.

Does that boat become unstable above a certain speed?

Needless to say, I'm looking for in excess of scale speed.

By the way, the delphin can be driven in nearly every speed without dynamical problems. The rudders are not this big. The manouvrabilty is great, but the X-Sushi will bet it.....

With Delphin there is acrobatic under the surface (and on the surface too) possible. The X-Sushi is extreme......

I love to watch those games over here. But for myself I would get a heart attack after some minutes driving those boats

Guys over here are building now "subdogs" or "fighting drops". This is the evolution of the Sushis and Delphins. They all have extreme light LED's. To see the running in the night in the pool is an impressive picture....

Don't know if folks have seen the little Aqua Racers the Japanese Submarine Society folks have been playing around with

They are running brushless motors and water cooling in some of them!!!
