Engel dive systems - How to instal B.T.S. 1584

    Hi All
My first posting on the board. I'm hoping some one can help me to wire up my ballast tank switch to my dive cylinder i have the instructions supplied by Engel's and have followed them to the letter but when i operate the switch from the transmitter nothing happens not a flicker athough if i self operate the micro switches (end switches) motor does turn for a fraction of a second. To be honest i'm not an electronics expert so if you could keep it simple i would be grateful.

    Julian,

    As I had similar problems

    Julian,

As I had similar problems with my Lafayette at the beginning, I found that I had wired the pump motor in reverse. Engel does not mark the motor polarity. I am assuming you checked the motor operation prior to wiring. Also, which system are you using? EA, TA, TAE, or TAES. What type radio?

You can write me direct- michael_42_kf@msn.com

    Good luck-Mike

Can one of the Administrators move this to R/C?

        disconnect all but the positive

disconnect all but the positive and negative power feed to the bts and also leave the RX connected, then try, see if you get some clicks from the switches.

If yes then the bts is working.

The wiring diagram looks strange but it does work

              Julian,
I have fuses on my engel board. Have you tested them? Its easy to blow fuses without even trying. Check and then give the test another go.

                Hi Phil
                No fuses on

                Hi Phil
No fuses on this switch according to instructions fuses are actually built into the pcb so if you make a mistake when you wire it up presumably you have to byepass the damaged part of the circuit. In fact it goes on to say this is "the worst case scenario"
                Regards Julian.

Julian, I have one of these BTS control boards. Do you have
a DC voltmeter to do some trouble shooting? Do any of the
LED's on the BST board light? Make sure you have power to the R/C receiver and the transmitter is on. Is your piston
tank a 6 volt or 12 volt model? Did you hook it up using the diodes or without diodes?
                  Regards, Brian

Yes i have a D.C. voltmeter. None of the L.E.D's light, piston is 12v as is the switch. As for diodes i was under the impression these were built into the switch, said nothing about diodes in the set up instructions. Hope you can help further.

i think you have a duff one send it back. I could not work out the wiring for mine, but even then the leds lit and the switches fired.

                        Hi Albion
I have been in touch with Engel's and they have asked me to send it back for test/ repair, as a last resort this is what i will do.
                        Thanks Julian.

I would like to thank you all for your help so far.
I have just acquired a Norbert Bruggen BTS and was thinking of hooking this up to my engel dive cylinder. The switch however is 6 volt the cylinder 12volt but i will use a 6 volt supply. Will this work? Anyone forsee any problems? Help with this apreciated.
                          Regards Julian.

                            Julian, My BTS is 6

Julian, My BTS is 6 volt and the instructions show a hookup
using diodes between the BTS and the micro switches on the Tank. I assume you have verified that there is twelve volts present at the BTS 12 v input wires with your meter. You should have the Rx on and the servo connector plugged in
with the transmitter on. If you have done that and there
are no LED's lite on the board then send it back like Albion
                            suggested.
                            Regards, Brian

                              Hi All
Just wired in the norbet bruggen bts (same wiring dia.) as engle switch and guess what it works (thank god) lot of sleepless nights over this one. Engle switch must have been faulty.
Only problem now is the red led is flashing which i believe signifies under voltage. Checked voltage on batt. thats ok. According to manual the under voltage regulator is variable but it does'nt say how to adjust anyone help again please.
                              Regards Julian.
