volume calculation - having trouble caluculating the volume

    hi fellow members
i am new to rc submarines so i brought the book called model submarine technology which i found out to be very informative on the subject and helped me to decide to build rc subs.
one of the problems i am having is that on page 18 of this book they give you formulars to calculate 1.hemispheres 2.cylinders and 3.truncated cones.
the problem is that the formulars that they have given you ,it seas that the bigger as the cylinder is the smaller the volume is so can any one point me in the right direction for the right formulars to calculate the volume of these objects

The two above volume calculation formula should be correct. Do give me a heads up if I'm mistaken.

        If I am not mistaken,

If I am not mistaken, the formula for the volume of a cone is as follows]http://www.subcommittee.com/forum/icon_razz.gif[/img]

              I downloaded this gem but

I downloaded this gem but it will not run do I need a language translator or what please help

and here are is the method I use
weigh or estimate everything above the waterline, always err on the lighter side (lead ballast can cure this) in ounces and divide by 0.58. this will convert weight into volume of water in cubic inches.

                The value for Pi is

The value for Pi is slightly off; it is 3.14159265...... Ok, so perhaps I gave too many digits. Also I am just confirming that the volume of a cone is v=1/3*pi*r^2*h

                    Well that isn't difficult.

                    Well that isn't difficult.

All you need to do is draw the cone as if it isn't truncated at the top, work out the volume with the formula, make a note of the result.

Then draw a line across where the truncation is, and you will have a smaller cone above. Work out the volume of that cone, and make a note of that.

Now all you have to do is subtract the volume of the smaller cone from the larger cone, and voila you have the volume of your truncated cone.

                    Andy
