    Hi Peter,

    Really if you can

    [color=#000000]Hi Peter,

Really if you can I would just get one of the GWS units. They are cheap and pretty much ready to go. But if your an old airplane guy like me you have a lot of motors sitting around.

    I would think 3]

      Steve,

Thank you, I must say I like the look of the GWS unit I take it that they are readily available here in England. The thing I am envious about is that some of the things that you use your side of the pond are a bit hard to source over here. It just isn`t fair!

Well GWS is everywhere. I bet they do have them over there.

Hey you live in a great country. My wife is from the UK and my whole family on here side. So it's pretty fair in my book. You just have to dig harder or get some dumb american to ship what you need from here as a gift. LOL! NO VAT TAX!

        Post your build here Peter.

          Hi Peter,
          Steve is right

          Hi Peter,
Steve is right GWS is world wide. I would think any good hobby shop will have them. My 280 motor is a rocket ship, the 350 motor will be hyperdrive! Dave.

            Dave,

My LHS didn't have the 280. but they did have the 350. Same gear box. I hooked this motor up for a minute and ran it. Man your right. This boat at full rpm will be a torpedo!

            Want to race?

            Steve

P.S. back to radio shack. This darm momentary switch I got is open. ####! Make sure when you guys buy the switch that it says normally closed.

              I don't know what switch

I don't know what switch you have, but I know you can get ones with three terminals, making it such that you can decide whether you want it normally closed or normally open.

                Steve,
                The S/W is supposed

                Steve,
The S/W is supposed to be NO (normaly open). If it were NC (normaly closed) the pump would be on all the time till the servo hit the S/W. You want the pump to be off till the servo contacts the S/W. Maybe you meant you had gotten a NC instead of NO. Dave.

                    So how are you guys

So how are you guys constructing the servo arm that activates the microswitch?? It swings one way and triggers the schrader valve then the other to activate the pump. I am interested in some close ups of the mechanism if possible.

Also what the experience here with respect to switches? Are there better momentary switches than others for doing this? Do you proscribe to using some vero board like Art does??

                    Thanks

                      Byron,

It's just a simple momentary switch. That's all. Works great. It's from radio shack.

It's a basic prototyping board, used as an alternative to a PCB.

It has pre-etched copper strips with holes pre drilled.

It is used for one-off electronic projects, where the hassle of producing a PCB is sometimes not worth the grief.

I always prefer to make a PCB personally.

                              Hi guys,

                              Hi guys,
I have a couple of real basic questions regarding your masterful work on the Trumpeter Seawolf. Please bare with me. First, what size is the finished boat (not in scale terms, but actual measurement, in inches)? Is there a mail order hobby store that sells them, and if so, how much are they? Does anybody have a website or on line supplier for the nifty little GWS motor/gearbox that you use? What size is the WTC tube?
I retired to the Salt Lake area, where the various hobby shops that I've visited are very primitive, and have virtually no boating supplies (a bottle of Elmers glue is pretty exotic stuff around here). Got spoiled by living in California, where EVERTHING is available almost 24/7. Thanks for any info you can pass on to a boat lover in the desert.

That wasn't my vero board, PCB, or experimenter's board. It was a neat setup for controlling the RCABS, however. I just recently put the controls right on the servo, for a new project.
