    Super small R/C

I have decided (rather insanely perhaps) to TRY and R/C Maquette's 1/400 Alfa. No, it likely will not work, or at least not work very well, but I am going to give it a shot anyway. What I need though is a super small R/C system (obviously). One thing I am considering is gutting one of those tiny R/C cars that you have probably seen at Radio Shack. Obviously the problem is that these systems are only two channels while I need three or four. I am considering getting two of the systems in two different frequencies and then tailoring the transmitters together. But I haven't got much room to fit much of anything in a hull about 6" long and 1" wide.

By now you are probably convinced that I have gone stark, raving mad, even for a model submariner

So I posted this here in case anyone had any ideas; maybe about how I could combine two R/C car systems, or maybe you know of some other tiny R/C system.

        Petn7,

        Petn7,
I didn't know that they made servos that small. Does anyone have any idea what they cost though?

        Steve,
Yes, I did see your post there, but I am afraid that that will be too big. Not much room inside a 3/4" WTC.

        Thanks,
        Jonathan

Thank you both (Andy, for some reason your link didn't work though).I am trying to keep this on a really small budget though, and the servos I would need would be about $100 each. Not exactly an inexpensive project. So if I cannot find anything else that is cheap and will work for me, I will probably just go with the micro R/C car idea.

              Thank you!

                I bought some micro RC

I bought some micro RC cars and spare motors and parts in Toys R'us (they were on sale!) just for a project like yours. In my case I want to make a 1/700 RC Typhoon (Dragon) which is a little bit bigger than the Maquette Alfa. The idea is to use a spare mini RC sub I have (those with the motors at 45°) for propulsion and an aditional motor for active diving. My plan is to put a vertical propeler using the missile hatches as exhausts for the water jet (of course there would be some holes in the bottom as well) No ballast tanks or anything like that.

So is your plan to use one of these radio systems or two in your Typhoon?

I am planning on using one, and then having the bow planes "fixed" but still adjustable so that if I want it to run on the surface, than I can manually change the pitch of the planes. I am also planning on making all of this stuff completely removeable so I can put it in other small kits, Maquette's Kilo for example. Maybe if this works well I will build two cylinders on two different frequencies and then I can operate them together.

I have decided that the batteries that come with the Microsizers cars are a bit too small. I think I am going to order a few of these instead]http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFD80&P=7[/url]

                        The other part of this

The other part of this is I have id'ed a source for the Lexan (aka Polycarbonate on 1, 1.5,2,2.5 inch sizes) to build these WTCs (still need someone to cast the endcaps though...) but the tubing only comes in 8 ft lengths and I don't need 6 feet of spare Lexan laying around. So I am wondering if anyone would like to go halfs in the tubing, ie receive 4 foot lengths of 1, 1.5, 2, and 2.5 inch polycarbonate tubing. I am also looking to buy some of the clear sheets for building equipment trays.

The tubing is available here http://www.usplastic.com/catalog....d=24993 and sheet here http://www.usplastic.com/catalog....d=10718

All up I worked out the cost at around $92 plus shipping so half would be in the 40-50 buck range.

Let me know if anyone is interested.

                              i RC'ed the CN Models

i RC'ed the CN Models 1/200 alfa (which has an identical hull to the 1/280 akula)

i made my WTC out of 2 HDPE plastic bottles with a 45mm outer diameter (i think that's a little more than 1.5 inches)
