    Well guys I spent about

Well guys I spent about 5 hours today running and trimming the boat. By the time I was ready to shoot video I was losing my light and didn't have time to set up the under water video camera. To add to it the battery on board was getting very low.

I'll try to shoot a better one this Wednesday but this should give you an idea of how it works. Even though the boat is trimmed to rise to sub sail height be aware that once you get to lower depths in a pool you'll lose signal.

I did on one run. I got below 2 ft and she stopped responding and at that depth she went right to the bottom of the deep end of course. About 9 ft down. She didn't float back up and I attribute this in part to the pressure forcing any air left over in the bladder fully back into the WTC. A cut off valve might not be a bad idea if you can find the room.

Down to two foot though anytime I cut power she would rise up again. No room for a fail safe either not unless you can program your radio.

I would imagine in a fresh water pond the signal strength would be better. My pool man had just come today and you could smell the stuff it was so strong.

Everything worked like a well run clock though. Not one drop of water got in the WTC. Even after it sat at 9 ft. for about 20 minutes. I'm very pleased.

The ST-10 from subtec worked great. I could almost hover with just the slightest forward speed.

In the video when you see it surface it's the RCABS that's doing the work. The water you see in the tank being pushed out is the remainder of the water from the run to give you an idea how well this all works.

The 3 cell 1200 lipo pack worked very well and lasted all day. The combo of the Maxon motor with it's low 400 mah draw is a great combo. I found it easy and quick to remove the WTC and battery.

Dave did a great job on the Kilo WTC kit. Works as advertised to be sure.

I'll post a more detailed video soon. Hope this holds you for now.

      did i see the rear

did i see the rear dive planes move like aircraft ailerons or is this just too early in the morning?

thinking of rear dive planes; when the fronts angle down for a dive command; I'm thinking the rears go opp/ am I right; to lift the stern; and on a small covertion like the ROG Uboat is it worth making the rears move; and if they do; is it prop/nal to the front; i.e. half the movement?

Just a novice trying to learn; if this was a surface vessel I'b be fine

anyway speaking of surface; some of you must have seen the little 1/72nd S100 from ROG; well the props are crap; never seen something that bad before; here's my brass replacement for my conversion of the S100

      and with the spinner

and it's like the man said; if you need to ask how much; you can't afford them

        Steve,

        I was just pondering two

        Steve,

I was just pondering two things a bit..

The RCABS system seem to work really well, but have you any idea of how much water the bladder displaces when fully inflated?

And how much of the sub extends above the surface when the bladder is fully inflated? The sub never reaches the real life waterline when surfaced, does it?

          Great video Steve, and thanks

Great video Steve, and thanks for the nice comments about my WTC kit. I have a lot of fun running my little Kilo. You can't beat it for a fun pool sub. I have to say though I have never lost signal in mine at any depth. Even in my friends highly treated pool. Check your antenna. You can't have it wrapped around something or coiled up. That will degrade the reception. That is why I was excited about the Black Kat antenna. It was a b--ch trying to run the stock antenna out in the micro subs. I don't think the bladder air could be forced back into the WTC as the pump acts as a one way valve. There are specs on the pump and the bleed through is really low. The water pressure may compress the air in the bladder though. I think Dr Art will back me up on this. Thanks again, and have fun running the Kilo. Dave.

            Dave,
            You are right about water

            Dave,
You are right about water pressure compressing air in the bladder as the sub goes deeper and the water pressure is greater. That is why I trim my subs so the bladder is flat, (not inflated), when I dive. That way, the flat bladder cannot be compressed further as the sub dives deeper. There are other considerations, such as the rubber tubing to the bladder. I also like to keep the tubing length as short as possible to prevent water pressure from causing the same compression problem on the tubing. If I have a long distance between the bladder and the WTC, I cut the tubing short and attach copper tubing between the bladder and the WTC.

              Steve,

              Very nice. So how much?

              Steve,

Very nice. So how much? LOL!!!!

I've thought about the front dive planes working. May do it. It would be easy to do but mine like the Akula can be set at different angles. Mostly they just have about 3 degrees negative.

The rear planes aren't very effective at the scale size. Dave Welch uses extensions made out of clear plastic to get more bite. I may try that too but the RCABS works so well (thanks Art) as you can see it dives easy without a lot of forward speed.

And yes your right about the movement of the planes.

Dave thanks and your welcome. You were such a big help with my education. Always there to answer my darn questions.

I read you on ant. I guess I'll have to break down and get one or two or three. Could you post the link?

I also grasp what your saying about the pressure on the bag. Both of you Art and Dave. I'll make sure that bag is very empty next time. It all makes sense. Well at lease I know she doesn't link a drop at the bottom.

              Jacob,

I'm not sure on the displacement. I think Dave could answer that. The boat does not sit at the actual water line. With the bag fully inflated it's sits pretty high but not that high.

Because the ballast that is a bit forward on the Kilo it's necessary to trim the boat so it's sits a bit tail heavy for even dive. So most of the aft deck is under water. Still this little sub is a real marvel and a joy to play with.

More trials soon and a better video.

                Steve,
                I think you answered

                Steve,
I think you answered Jacob's question very well. Since there is not a lot of room to work in the hull, I was more worried about getting the Kilo to operiate well than getting the correct water line. Sometimes you can't have both. Here is the web site for the antennas. www.microantenna.com Dave.

The electronic goldmine is a scary place to go, seems I always find things there that I didn't know I needed(LOL).

Did you see their water detector kit?

Ordered some of the large air bladders from them also in preparation for Dave's next WTC kit for the seawolf.
