    Clippard valve - safe voltage?

[color=#000080]The valve is rated for 6V. I am using a 6-cell battery, so voltage could be up to 8.4V for a short while. The instructions with the valve controller (AFS) just say to hook it to the battery, doesn't get into specific valve or battery voltages, and Clippard site doesn't give any more than the nominal voltage rating. Should I stick a simple 6V regulator (or I suppose even a resistor) in the AFS box (lots of room) just to be safe, or does the Clippard solenoid easily handle the 6-cell batt voltage for the odd time it will be subjected to it (I hope just the odd time...). Thanks.

Oh yeah, one other related thing]

    I'll just close this out

I'll just close this out in case anybody wants to know in the future. Dave at SubTech says the 6 cell voltage is OK. I have only benchtested the valve with 6 cells, quite a few times, and it's fine with the 8.4V. These appear to be hardy devices as they're rated for a billion operations (!) whatever that means, and solenoids/relays generally work over a large voltage range from their nominal rating, but good to check especially since it's part of a failsafe so not a good place for shabby construction.
