    U-2540 - Robbe Type XXI

    Hi Y'all,

I just got a new Robbe Type XXIII and I am impressed. First; this baby is enormous! The hull shells are very well made in vacuformed ABS, with all free flood holes pre-cut. I am not expert on the Type XXIII but from the photos and drawings I have it would appear to be very acurate. The die cut parts are well done, with no problem cutting them from the sheet.Robbe seems to have improved on thier U-47 design, with a nod to all the problems identified with the U-47 kit. My bicycle ineer tube ballast system will be fitted with little mods to the basic design, due to perfectly sized cut outs in the framing. The kit provides for two "secondary tubes" in the location I plan to use for the Ballast "tube".
I will be making regular posts as this progresses.

    Hi Y'all,

    One more thing I

    Hi Y'all,

One more thing I forgot to mention. The bow planes are rigged to extend retract AND function up and down. A previous post said differently. Robbe has included a very clever (but simple) mechanism which covers both functions.
    Take care,
    Steve

I will be building the same boat when I finally get to work on my Thor XXI- white tower for a nice contrast to the overall grey...

              Visability under water is another

Visability under water is another great reason for the white tower. I have just dived into the build and it is going rather quick. The die cut parts have an excellent fit with very little sanding and trimming. As I stated before the kit lends itself well to upgrades. I am proceeding with the build of the basic structure "out of the box" and then I will add in all my extras. a thorough study of the instructions has shown me that all my planned extras can be implemented witout any major structural change. I plan to document the upgrades for a possible article focusing on the novice (how to upgrade your existing kit).
